Thank you indeed, I'm going to start trying some of these.
For those of you who use coconut oil, does it have to be/should it be "cold pressed"? Or does it matter?

It depends on you. Cold pressed is always better when it comes to oil you're using in skin care but I've used the non-cold pressed and it has worked alright, not spectacular but alright.
I assume that was aimed at me? I am allergic to cows milk and yes I can drink goats milk (and love it) however I've learned the hard way to never assume that just because something says it was made with goats milk it will be fine. A rather bad reaction to some goat butter was just one such incident. It's something to keep in mind when you are putting anything on your skin.
I stumbled across something interesting the other week, when i had to go to the doctors about my skin again. I am mostly acne free, but occasionally I get it really bad.
Apparently, food allergies are being explored as a cause of acne. I thought what the hell and gave it a go. I started a day eating fruit and veg (mainly apples), and I carried this on for a week, eating NOTHING but fruit and veg. No dairy, no gluten, no salt, and no ready meals. i slowly introduced the food one by one.
Hey Presto, the mintue dairy was in my diet BOOM! Bad skin. I've always know that I am sensitive to milk products, but never thought it would show in my skin. Anyways, the doctor told me to limit my dairy and carry on with medication, etc. So far so good.... until I bought way too many muller Corners. :-(
Oh gods...if dairy was my problem I would DIE! My boyfriend teases me about having more milk than blood in my veins with the amount that I drink, and I'm also a huge fan of smoothies and yogurt and cheese. I always have been a huge dairy eater and I've only had acne problems the last year and a half...so I really hope that's not the case for me!
I finally got some coconut oil, so we'll see how it goes with that. Got castor oil too, as suggested for spots and scars...how exactly should I be using it? :P
I found something that's a huge help against acne:
Tea Tree Face Wash For Acne | Thursday Plantation
I have been using it for a few weeks now and haven't had any new outbreaks (yet). I hope it stays that way![]()
One thing my chiropractor told me was that skin overoils itself when its dried out by soap (echoing what someone else said) but you can protect it with a cold-pressed almond oil exfoliation before using your regular shower stuff.
I did it for the winter, and my skin was super clear. then I slacked over the last month due to some other stuff, and I'm breaking out again.
I do it according to the kundalini yoga method:
early shower, ice-cold water. pour some on a scrubbie and scrub scrub scrub until the cold water starts to feel warm.
Then, go ahead and warm teh water up, and wash as normal.
I may pair this with the ACV/water soap-and-shampoo substitute to see how it goes....
Ugh, I can't stand the cold: cold showers, cold weather, just, UGH. I'm extremely cold-natured, probably because of my hypothyroidism, which I'm on meds for (and I'm quite small, too -_-). On top of that, I've gotten to that age where cold makes me hurt.
I don't suffer from breakouts, just an annoying zit or two every now and then. I would like to try cold-pressed oil on my aging skin, though, to see if it would help (sorry, I'm getting off-topic).
I'm so frustrated with my acne, I have seriously tried everything to get rid of it. I wash my face like three times a day, I have tried almost every acne product out there, my mom tried aryuvedic cures (which didn't work) and I even went to a determotolgist they gave me medicine for it but right now I'm having another breakout. Right now I have a huge zit on my cheek that hurts really bad and is so uncomfortableI really don't know how to get rid of it.
I'm so sorry, Meera. There was one method of treating acne that I read about years ago in a book called "Blue Eyeshadow Should Be Illegal" (seriously, that was the name of the book!). The author recommended washing your face by making a paste from baking soda and water, using hydrogen peroxide as a toner, and Milk of Magnesia as a mask. The author claims that these three products are gentle and healing to the skin (nursing homes use MoM to treat bed sores). You might give it a try since nothing else has worked for you. I wish you all the best. *hugs*
