Any suggestions on custom made costumes? I am thin and tall with small breast and butt, also long waisted I want a costume that compliment my body. I noticed there are some costumes made of Lycra spandex, are those better than others?
These are the ones I am interested right now. Which one do you think would look great on a thin dancer? Or if you have a better idea, plz post the picture/link? ![]() ![]() ![]() Based on your suggestions, I picked a couple more. I really like the first one, but this baby cost $430! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

"Thin and tall" is a pretty general description. Are you thin and tall with well defined breasts and hips or are you straight up and down? Short-waisted or long-waisted? Got a picture? It's hard to choose a costume for someone we've never seen though we all enjoy "dressing" each other.

Thank you, Shanazel. I just provided more details on my original post. I am more 'straight up and down' with long waist. |

You can afford to wear full skirts, tiers, layers etc. On the bottom. You can get away with waist accents that come off the belt or pretty much do anything between the bra and belt. Those things will give a curvier illusion. The pieces that you posted are nice. But that style is more 'straight up and down', very fitted and sleek.

I'm torn between the last two. I like the additional beadwork on the green costume. When you are tall you can pull off ornate skirts, plus it keeps the skirt from being a large expanse of just one color.
I like the longer center fringe on the yellow costume. Being long waisted you can sport a long center piece and it won't interfere with your belt. Since it's a custom order, perhaps you could get the green style with the center fringe modified?

The bra style of the green one looks like it would fit a small-busted figure better than the others. Avoid bras that stand up away from your chest (I know about this
)If you have amazing undulations, a long stretch of bare torso could look fabulous, otherwise the short centre fringe might look undersized. And go for it with fancy skirts! You will be able to wear any kind of layers, gathering or decorations. |

Let's see...I would say. your costume depends on the look you want. ..if you are trying to empasize your shape...I would choose a sleek, straight costume that is all one color or primarily one color. If you are wanting to add curve around the hips, butt, and breasts...fuller skirts, layered skirts, very ornate belts and bras.
That's just my idea and Im certainly no costume expert..Ive just been noticing what does what to a figure in belly dance costumes as Ive tried to decide which ones to save up for myself

How do you want to look? Do you want to emphasize long & lean? Do you want to create the illusion of curves? "Great" can mean different things to different people, check the TPBDC for proof.
My recommendation for right now is to find a well-known dancer with a similar physique (based on your description I'm picturing Sharon Kihara or Ava Flemming) and check out her gallery. A style that you like on her would probably be a good starting point for your search.

The purple, the blue-and-white and the blue bras all look as if, even in the right size, they might not reliably cover a smaller figure in every angle or position. Or if they do, it might be at the expense of chafed skin where the rigid construction meets flesh and bone.
You might be used to doing this when trying on clothes, but in case a modesty check isn't usually necessary for you (I live in a hot climate; sleeveless, let-the-air-circulate tops make it essential) make sure you bend forward and check the view from different angles, then raise your arms and check again. Better to be sure than sorry! |
