another downside of feathers; beautiful as they are is sweat...can kill your feathers and then you mightn't get much wear out of your beautiful costume.

They also smell when they get moist!!!

Once I had an outdoor samba gig. It was drizzling the whole time. After the show I cameout smelling like a live Ostrich!!!!

    But feathers/costumes are beautiful!!!

I was just wondering, Janaki... Did your peakock feathers smell like and Ostrich?

    Smell like peacock I guess!!!

I had two peacocks as pets when I was growing up in Sydney Suburbs. Trust me Reen, they do smell, especially on a rainy day.

Eh he he that must be some special Sydney breed, or something.... cos 12 of these rascals are wandering around the house day and night! But I suppose that 3 dogs(one has 12 puppies) 2 cats and a bunch of horses smell much more, so I dont smell peackocks....LOL

Since peacock feathers are so delicate so I guess maybe some sequined appliques in the shape would be a better solution.

or what about so that they dont bend and break and absorb the sweat but using a fabric with glue on one side. its for sewing but i'm not so advanced yet so i cant think of whats its called...i'm think basting but thats for turkeys...ahhh

going to look it up...yea its basting, iron-ons

you can put a fabric on top of the iron-on and run the iron over it to melt the glue and then peel off the fabric and then stick on the peacock feather.

then you can use the actually feathers and perhaps just the ones along the edge can be free of basting so they move about. and those can easily be replaced.

ever since I began dancing, I wanted to make a peacock costume. In 2003, after about 40-50 hours of beading, I did this:

Then in 2005, I ripped the belt apart in favor of using one of my own design bases (shaped corset belt panels), rather than the stiffer cabaret belt (and after another 20-30 hours of beading):

I LOVE those costumes. I want one now.

You've got so much patience. In my family we have the Brown curse which is that we get bored so easily. I'd never be able to sit down (even in bits) to make a costume. I get bored with everything relatively wuickly and have to move on. Like jobs! I'm notorious for having loads of jobs at once cause it keeps me entertained.

HOw on earth did you go about making that?
