thank you all...I had worked on sketches of the costume for a few years, built up a collection of beads, and just dove in. Frankly, I'm amazed I had that much patience as well, but the concept drove me to keep going. I'm quite the Gemini --I can be incredibly patient and dedicated, working on something nonstop for hours...or impatient and wanting immediate gratification. That and I can bead while riding in the car, on the train, on the phone..

I'm pulling this costume out again for a show in NYC in early September, the Fantasy Bellydance show (Venus Uprising :: Dance :: Bellydance NYC :: art :: New York belly dance) - and will be making a few more tweaks to it (it's really a neverending project). The piece I'm doing is inspired by Ruth St. Denis' peacock dance.

Wow! I adore Ruth St. Denis. I am sure the name inspires and motivates you enough to do a good job. I wish you all the best. I also loved the costume. Pls post the pics aft you have done with the tweaking!!!

I do too Reen! Do you design all your own costumes? I'd love to see more of them if you have.

    Thank you

Yes, I pretty much design them all, and create them for very specific pieces - I also like to collaborate with other designers, pulling different pieces together. You can see more examples on my dance website: Tempest - Darkly Dramatic Dance

Visit the Gallery section, and pick a "strand of pearls", then scroll over the pearls to view the images.

    Hi reen,
I found this gorgeous costume on this site, She also has another design which is so elegant. Feathers only on the bra. I liked them both. I want them.

Thank you Janaki dear!!! YOu are a ster! Now I have where to direct my teacher for ideas! I like both of them, that iridiscent peacock one has smaller feathers from neck/back of the peakock which look gorgeous, but are hard to get cos they are small and fall out all over the garden...LOL

You are the bestest "scavanger"....LOL(this is an honourary title for finding rare stuff invented by me! )
