My husband isn't massively invested in BD. He's not particularly fascinated by the culture behind it, doesn't like the music and has a very low sequin tolerance.

He'll critique my rehearsals and help me take shots of my costumes, and always asks me how a show went, but he rarely comes along nowadays as it's really not his thing.

It used to bother me that he wasn't all that interested in something that's practically an obsession for me, but he has his own interests (downhill mountain biking, messing about with cars) that do nothing for me, so all in all it evens out pretty well.

oh wow. i guess my experience isn't terribly abnormal. the only other annoying thing my hubby does is like "oh they got that move from black girls" umm, no, htat is a traditional turkish and lebanese shimmy, they stole this from black ppl, hip hop, etc.

    ughhh.

I think he does it just to annoy my first love (belly dance) lol .

My husband neither likes or dislikes, just accepts it. He asks how things went, asks after my fellow BD friends and is very supportive, will drop me off at places & pick me up if necessary, does come to a yearly performance night and enjoys that & if I asked would come to any performances I wished him to attend. But he doesn't understand the music and doesn't really want too He is very open about the fact that I dance and is happy that I have my addiction to keep me happy. He plays, lives breathe golf - I am a golf widow but am happy he has an interest that brings him a lot of pleasure, he spends on golf stuff, I spend on sparklies. It all works well - very well

Dance is like glitter, it not only colours your life, it makes you sparkle, you find it everywhere and in everything and it's near impossible to get rid of. (unknown)

My husband has no issue with my dancing. He has even helped out back stage to sweep the floor in between acts He is used to my dancing at various times and to the associated mess with my costume making. Sometimes he watches me, some times he has gone to curl as that is his winter sport but he has always been supportive of lessons, DVD's costume supplies and even zills.

I have kept my belly dancing classes a secret from my family. I guess I am a little shy since I just started last month. But I think my bf will love to know his girl belly dances. Especially since it's his money supporting my classes

My fiance hasn't been around me enough yet to really get a taste of what it is like so because of that I can't really say how he reacts to me being a bellydancer.

Hmm...he isn't aware yet that you dance? My advice would be to be completely open and casual about, and not keep it a secret either on purpose or by omission. I had a boyfriend for a short while who I never openly told I bellydanced (though he probably figured it out) because I was too shy and insecure...and let me tell you, it felt very uncomfortable.
