Dear Moon,
I am wondering where the dancer is from....she is dancing to a nice Egyptian piece of music, but she dances to the music as if she is not Egyptian...???
Does anyone know her background?

Dear Moon -- What an interesting video- Very natural/earthy and I really liked the way she interacts with the audience and interprets the music. So natural and fun and love that element of surprise (the way the high heels were off about 1/3 of the way through) -- twirling the cane when she did a backbend was so incredible -- Even the costume -- I like long evening gown look and it gives it a folkloric flavor in a nightclub setting... Then the way the dance broke into a drum solo -- Thanks for sending this - Regards, Ludy

No problem Lucy :)

I also really liked her interaction with the audience, and it's so clear she's having fun.

I didn't know there is also a male Egytian Dina! Very cool he dances great!

Lol:p This is of course Asi from Israel, my very favorite male belly dancer (I like him even better than Horacio Cifuentes, who used to be my very favorite before I saw Asi's videos:D ) and to my opinion one of the best male belly dancers of the world! What a wonderful interpretation of "Ya Msafir.." he danced! I almost cried. Anybody knows who this amazing singer is? She has such an unbelievable voice! I got chills. My God, this video made my day (or better to say my night, because I'm going to bed now).
I liked a lot also the Israeli girl:) She is a really good dancer. I would define her style as Egyptian basis with Lebanese and a bit American cabaret elements.

Orit encountered belly dancing at 26 years of age completely by chance.

At the time she had no background or connection to Arab culture, but she immediately found in it all that she loved: emotion, imagination, creativity, and lots of drama.

Orit connects both to the melodic, soft, and romantic side of Arabic music, especially the classic compositions of major Egyptian singers, as well as to the wilder heart-beat of the drums. She studied belly dancing at “Sahara City” in Tel Aviv, and concurrently conducted her own research on the different forms of the dance through Arabic movies and instructional videos. Later, she began to travel to Cairo to take belly-dancing lessons, as well as to acquire a respectable understanding of Arabic culture. She took lessons with her favorite contemporary dancer, Randa Kamel, with Hisham Salah, the trainer of the Mahmud Reda troupe, and with Diana Mahiou, with whom she became friends.

Within a short period of time, after partaking in a number of big, joint shows, she brought her own personal creation to the stage in a performance called “Nur al Amar.” This performance, at the Suzan Dalal Center in Tel Aviv, was a gesture to those spectacular Arabic movies from the 1950s that Orit would watch, featuring the participation of an orchestra from Nazareth and an accompanying troupe of dancers. She worked with the finest Arabic musicians from Israel and traveled with her show nation-wide. She gained experience on stage at many events and festivals in Israel and she represented Israel at a major cultural seminar in Russia and has performed to Jewish audiences around the world.

Thread, etc.

Dear Group,
Thanks for the info on Orit. In watching her, I could see she interpreted music very differently than the Egyptians, and it is nice to have it explained why!

BTW, does anybody know who the singer is in the last two clips?

PS: Orit's wonderful! I've also been a fan of hers ever since someone posted a link to all her clips a while ago in the old forum.

Dina is not a great favorite of mine; I always have a feeling that I am watching burlesque when she dances. What in particular do those of you who do enjoy her enjoy about her? Perhaps I am missing nuances and can appreciate her more if those nuances are pointed out.
