Silly question, but what defines beginners level belly dance and intermediate? My teacher says that you should take at least a year of belly dance classes, while some people say 6 months or just knowing the basic moves before starting intermediate.
I was using belly dance DVD's last year, but had nobody to give me feedback. I started taking classes a few months ago with a teacher that I found challenging and able to point out what I was doing exactly. Some of the other beginners' classes I dropped in didn't seem challenging.
With this teacher, I do find a lot of the moves easy to pick up, but holding shimmies for a period of time and then doing an upper body movement (like a shoulder roll) can be challenging for me. My friend said I could jump into an intermediate class, but she's just someone who took a few sessions of belly dancing classes.
