Cairo Caravan, the bellydance festival at Long Beach, California, is held on the Queen Mary, a retired Cunard Ocean Liner that has been converted into a hotel. This ship is supposedly haunted by scores of ghosts. History of the Haunted Ship “The Queen Mary” « Real Ghost Stories And Incidents

Princess Farhana conducted "an all-belly dancer paranormal ghost tour on the ship" during the festival in 2010 and 2012. This article recounts what was involved and her own spooky experiences on board (scroll down to half way); PRINCESS FARHANA: CAIRO CARAVAN 2012: Dancers And Sailors And Ghosts...Oh, My!

I read a lot of Ray Bradbury but missed this one, although I did see the film in the 1980's.

Anyone know the dancers, and if they were professionals? Their scene involves an excess of wafty hands, but they are in time with each other, and do hip circles, camels and shoulder shimmies as if they know the choreography and moves.
I do believe the lead dancer is the lovely Pam Grier. You can also see her riding the Ferris Wheel. I once tried to find out how to send an email to her to ask if she did her own dancing in this film. There was an Internet service which claimed they could do it, for a price, but it looked like a scam to me so I never did. In watching the scene again I'm certain that's her dancing, and not a double. Sorry, not a clue on the other dancers.

Rachel Brice and Dracula (well the next best thing - Bela Lugosi).

Thank you! That's a lovely way to put it! Is there benefit to the energy of the spirits who dance with me? I believe so...I believe it raises my energy to meet theirs...I believe it connects us more fully and connects them to others who they may not have been able to reach otherwise... <3

I love the "Instigated by Rachel Brice" in the closing credits.

Loie Fuller as a vampire bat - Gothic Isis Wings from 1902?! Plus (for me) an unexpected back bend.

Hmm. I wish that I could contribute. If I ever wrote a book about a belly dancing ghost, I would call it "The Shimmying Spirit"

    Two thumbs way up!
My library has this in ebook format, and I just checked it out.

Donia, I was unaware of Someone Else's Shadow until you mentioned it, so I started reading reviews. Looks like a very scary book.
Maybe I'm jaded, but I didn't find it scary at all. It wasn't a very romantic "Paranormal Romance" either IMHO. It read more like a love letter to oriental dance than anything else, but kudos to the author she got it right. I'm convinced she dances and reads tarot cards... hmmm, sound like anyone we know?

I loved this quote (no spoilers):

"It's all dancing. Skill infused with joy. Weaving jewelry out of dreams."
