Default Questions about dancing and a bad back

Hi going a little bit off topic but within the topic. As some of the members might remember I asked a question about dancing and and double hip replacements. This is how we handled it. My girl friend took me with her when she went to her orthopedic surgeon to demonstrate what is involved in some of the hip motions. He watched, and then said which ones she could do and which ones absolutely not to do and ones which could be done occasionally with great caution. This seems to have worked out well as the doctor was able to see close hand what was involved - rather than having a discussion of the same thing with two different sets of language, dance and medicine. Happily she is now in dance class, though she must wear her hip brace... as a reminder of how far to push... and our teacher keeps an eye out on her. But as has been mentioned... you really have to have everyone, dr, teacher and yourself knowledgeably involved and aware of limitations. Creaks

Not at all off topic - that's a great idea to have someone 'translate' from doctor speak to bellydance speak!

On the same note, not many doctors know what bellydance involves, its not just about low bendbends and turkish drops! be sure to ask what kind of MOVES (strain on certain areas) you are to avoid, if any, and then you will be more prepared to explain to your instructor what you are to be cautious about, so it will easier for her to modify your routine if need be!

    Best of luck!
