Around SLC. My daughter is thinking of going to U of U next fall and would like to keep belly dancing. We are wondering what the scene is like and if there is a Middle Eastern community.
Also, there is a young man of her acquaintance living in Spanish Fork who is learning to play doumbek. He has a lot of potential and needs instruction, or someone to jam with. He would like to learn to play for professional level dancers eventually.

There is a active community up there. I don't know them personally but there is a forum for Utah here: Tribes and there is a teaching/performer list here: Utah Belly Dance. The class list is from 2008 so it's a little out of date but for the ones still in business it lists locations, contact information, and styles.
They do have a BD festival in SLC every year as well.
Call (or e-mail) around and there should be little trouble finding what your daughter needs.
