Who's your favourite bellydancer?

Of past dancers, Samia Gamal. No question about it. She was the Sophia Loren of Egyptian bellydance. Love that smile. [Tahia Carioca was the Gina Lollobrigida of Egyptian bellydance, running a close second.]

Of present dancers.....I don't know. Last year I accidentally found a belly dancer on YouTube whom I was highly impressed with. She had several videos there and an Israeli-sounding name, about 25-35 years old, and she was also on Facebook. Any help in finding her again would be appreciated.

Gal Shirom?, Orit? Tali Cohen? Nataly Hay?

There are so many dancers I love. My list of inspirations is probably over 100.

I love a dancer who is themselves on stage, brings their own story and shares their love and their joy for this dance form. There are so many incredible dancers who bring it.

If I did pick one favorite though, it would be Nadia Jamal.

The best footage of her is on Rare Glimpses and at the Library for performing arts in NYC. But here is another clip of her I really like:

YouTube - Nadia Gamal - Nightclub Show

I really enjoyed this video.

I have to say Jilliana, Ansuya, Isidora, and Daria Mitskevich

YouTube - Дарья Мицкевич - Daria Mitskevich

I like Blanca from World Dance New York.

YouTube - :: Blanca :: from SENSUAL BELLYDANCE DVD:: WorldDanceNewYork.com :: DVDs Shipped Worldwide!

Her moves are so smooth and graceful that when I first watched Luscious, I had no trouble in deciding which of them I liked the most. Neon(also from WDNY) is also nice, maybe I little bit more intense.

YouTube - Neon - belly dance - WorldDanceNewYork.com - bellydance

What about you?

Zadiel Sasman for male bd"r. But otherwise, Didem for modern turkish & Saida for rumb/tango-infused saidi :)

I don't think I have a favorite but I never get tired of watching old clips of Nesrin Topkapi. That lady is out of this world, literally!

Out of people who are strictly belly dancers...my favorites are Sadie and Kaya, and out of those two I prefer Sadie because I think her facial expressions are more natural.

Ok so Im a complete BD noob so forgive me if I havent found the Greats of BD talent yet but I saw a viddy on Ava Fleming, and just fell in love!!
I was so taken aback by her skill!!
Then I came across Sadie and that was it for me. I was hooked on BD!!
Beautiful, Beautiful, Beautiful!!

I immediately signed up for a class near me and I just got called today that it was cancelled!!! Not enough ladies for the beginners course! Woe is me what am I to do now? everywhere else is too far for me :(

DVD is my only resort until the next class.

EDIT: I'm sure this has been seen to death but this was what did it for me :)

‪Sadie BellyDance‬‏ - YouTube

Oh! I can't work out how to add a viddy!!

Theres an Indian Belly Dancer on the Hindi Tv show just dance, She was also on India's got talent. I don't know how good her dancing is, but she is doing well on Just Dance and Hrithik Roshan really likes her :p When voting starts Im gonna vote her, she is only Bellydancer on there :p Anyway, even if her dancing isnt good, shes very sweet and entertaining to watch.

She was definitely on an adrenaline rush for the first performance, but she has a charming personality and her fusion is lots of fun to watch. Any idea how far she made it on India's Got Talent?

I cant remember all the beautiful dancers I enjoy. I had a list longer than this but as I started typing it all the names had been forgotten. Haha.

I would have to say Rachel Brice, Moria Chappell, Sherry Wheatly, and Zoe Jakes. I adore their tribal styles and moves. I emulate alot of what I do after them :-D

Yesterday I visited my bd teacher and we spent the afternoon watching bd videos. I got to know Randa Kamel and... OMG, she is absolutely fantastic! I wish I could dance like her one day.

Taheya Carioca

Fifty seven posts and one mention of Taheyya Carioca. Not to mention that she is the most influential Egyptian dancer of all time, she had incomparable grace, peerless elegance and a near transcendental interpretive ability. Always outspoken, she zealously pushed to elevate the stature of the art throughout her entire life. It has been seventy six years since her debut at the Casino Opera and she is still the one by which all Egyptian dancers are measured. Some have been highly influential (Nabaweya Mustafa), had comparable interpretive ability (Suheir Zaki) or superior technical skills (Fifi Abdou) but no one has matched that grace; that effortless beauty.

I am completely with you on Tahia, she was my first golden era love. When I first seriously watched her I thought oh yes, she has got 'it'.
I also love Naima Akef and when I'm in the zone I love me, I am AWESOME! on the right day ;)
