Hi from NYC!
Hi belly dancers,
I'm of Greek ethnicity and proud to see that there are a few fellow Grecians here, that are dancing this art form. I learned to love the music and dance ever since I was 12 years old. Once, I listen to the music I get lost in the rhythm and can't help but move my body. I have never received any formal training except two years ago I took some lessons. The teacher is an amazing dancer but not a good instructor. I currently want to go back and learn but don't know where to begin.
I live in the suburbs of NYC (but very close to NYC). I've heard mixed reviews about the Selena school.
Anyone know of any other options or advise for me?
Looking forward to meeting some talented dancers and making new friends that share my passion for belly dance

to the forum. Sorry I can't help with the question about teachers, but another member may be able to help.

Dance is like glitter, it not only colours your life, it makes you sparkle, you find it everywhere and in everything and it's near impossible to get rid of. (unknown)

Hello there. I'm a visual artist and I also live in New York City, specifically in Queens. Unfortunately, this city is expensive to live in so I may be leaving here soon.
Anyway, welcome to the board.

Wow, really! Nice to meet you. I grew up in Queens, specifically Astoria. Yes, you're right it is expensive here but there are many opportunities and different experiences. Very multiple-cultural, especially Queens.
Have you taken any belly dance classes in the city?

Actually, I'm a guy and I'm not a dancer at all. I'm just someone who enjoys drawing belly dancers.
