    Default belly dance brain freeze

Just wondering if I'm the only one to experience a belly dance brain freeze every wants in a wile.
When learning choreography some combo's just wont work, like my brain cant proses them.

Withe practice after a wile some just click en seem so simple .
    Some just never feel wright.

For me it is cross step combo's that are the hardest.

    Default Belly dance brain freeze

Welcome to the club brain freeze happens anytime you're learning something new. Especially when your muscles are doing something that they consider odd once they get some knowledge and memory of what is requested of them the freeze will defrost. It happens to me with reading music and playing music sometimes, know what I'm reading know where to play it, but the fingers go duhhhhhhhhh.

The secret is to get it out of your barin and into your muscles. When you first learn a combination you may need to analyse it - the weight goes here then I lift and pivot while the hip .... but you cannot dance like that. Both for performance and limiting brain strain practice until you body knows it. You can use your brain, if you have to, to keep track of where you are - first repetition with a push,I'm in second repetition so it's a shimmy and a figure eight - then let your body go again.

Yes, (for most people) "muscle memory" - do it and do it and do it.
