Default My Egyptian Style DVD Collection - What have I Missed?

    Hi Everyone,

I just got back from Cairo feeling very inspired.

I am interested in developing my Egyptian style technique and so far have the following DVDs to help me along:

    • Ranya Renee (Oriental, Taqsim & Baladi)
    • Leila of Cairo's Bellydance for Beginners
    • Just purchased and am awaiting Hadia's 5 volume Oriental Dance System DVD set
    • Awaiting the arrival of Zahra Zuheir's Magnificent Moves

Would you suggest any others? And yes, I am working on them everyday

    Many thanks!

    Habiba

I would second Egyptian dancers - don't forget Fifi (performance not instruction)! And Raqia Hassan is a must (instruction not performance) - and Shareen el Safy for a complete breakdown and a sense of what belongs where. I have also got heaps from Aida Nour in workshops - but I'm unsure what any of her videos are like.

Oh thank you ever so much Jane and Kashmir! What a marvellous list. Looks like my bank account is going to be drained but it's well worth every penny!

May I ask for your opinion on another point? I have been learning for a year now but my layering is almost non-existent. I have been reading rather positive things about Michelle Joyce's "Pop, Lock & Shimmy" but do you think that it would be of any use as I am only wanting to learn Egyptian style? I don't want to have to unlearn anything later on but I do need drilling.

    Many thanks in advance.

On another note, if anyone has any of the DVDs above that they would like to sell, please let me know!

It's a good DVD but if you want to go hardcore Egyptian (which it seems like you are), it's not going to help you. It'll help you improve your general belly dance technique perhaps, but it's not going to improve your Egyptian styling.

What about the movement and choreography DVD's by Yasmina Ramzey. I believe she is Egyptian style. They are well put together.

Thank you ladies. I will hold off on the Pop, Lock and Shimmy but I am definitely adding Yasmina Ramzy to the list. It looks fabulous and just what I'm after.

I also forgot to mention a little gem I've been using - a DVD by English bellydancer, Shona Hagan. It's marvellous and was very inexpensive. It's homemade but I didn't find that an issue. I'm not big on choreo either but I thought it very cute.

Going to purchase Yasmina's DVDs now. I need another payday asap!
