A blog post on Um Kolthoum and tarab

Is this the same comedian who says something like, "If you tell a joke and it falls flat, COVER IT UP WITH A BELLYDANCE!"? My kids and I saw an Arab comedian on TV several years ago who said this, and he was hilarious!

EDIT: After reading the above linked blog and another one, I don't think it's the same comedian we saw in the early '90's. His blog on Om Kalthoum is lovely, though. Gives a bit of insight on how the Arab people still feel about her. <3

I love Al Atlal such beautiful music. I have bookmarked the blog - Tarab for me is that delicious shiver all over & yes the hairs on my arms and neck stand up & you feel all choked up deep in the throat and upper chest, so I think what he says tarab is, is the same for me:D Thanks for sharing that Safran.

And as an additive to the blog post, here is Amer singing Oum Kolthoum's "Alf Layla Wa Leyla" to us non-Arabic speakers ;)
