They don't take long to make but two tips:

1) use brand new socks bought for purpose - you don't want anything you would mind ruining.
2) Make sure the tension on the socks in the 90 degree position is firm. It will lose a LOT of tension after your first night, so if it's firm then once they're worn in they won't feel 'loose' when they're on correctly.

The other thing is that they're fine in the dryer - the elastic may get crinkly around the edges but it still does it's job just fine. I throw mine in with my normal washing and they are fine.
