    Default 2017 Advent Calendar

    It's been a few years since we've had one and we no longer have enough active people to fill every day but I thought perhaps a thread where anyone can post a video or thought for the season wouldn't be amiss.

    I thought I would start with a video of Cassandra we've seen before;

    And this adorable little number I stumbled on.

    I always enjoyed the advent calendar. Here is one of my all time favorite videos. I've watched it two dozen times and love it more with each watching.

    "Well, now that we have seen each other," said the unicorn " if you'll believe in me, I'll believe in you."

    And for those who like something a little different:

    It's an RPG.

    Everyone is welcome to add something, really.

    In the meantime here is how we get a fireplace in my house.

    And a little belly dance from Ozma of Japan (I used to read her blog).

    Well I wanted to post yesterday but didn't make it. Chanukah was from the 12-the 20th. So happy belated Chanukah.

    In the second century BCE, the Holy Land was ruled by the Seleucids (Syrian-Greeks), who tried to force the people of Israelto accept Greek culture and beliefs instead of mitzvah observance and belief in G‑d. Against all odds, a small band of faithful Jews, led by Judah the Maccabee, defeated one of the mightiest armies on earth, drove the Greeks from the land, reclaimed the Holy Temple in Jerusalem and rededicated it to the service of G‑d.When they sought to light the Temple's Menorah (the seven-branched candelabrum), they found only a single cruse of olive oil that had escaped contamination by the Greeks. Miraculously, they lit the menorah and the one-day supply of oil lasted for eight days, until new oil could be prepared under conditions of ritual purity.

    To commemorate and publicize these miracles, the sages instituted the festival of Chanukah.

    However I believe I'm in time to wish those who celebrate it a Happy Winter Solstice.

    Thank you, m'dear. We stretch out our midwinter celebration over nine days of candle lighting (the nine darkest days of the year with the Solstice at the center). Happy holidays to all that are hanging in there with OD.
