Naima Akef. Not as well known as some others but interesting to watch. Her acrobatic background shows.

Well if we're posting clips from old movies. ;)

Talk about a revealing slit.

Soooo I just spent the morning rewatching my favorite clips of classic dancers (thanks ;) ) and it hit me that Naima Akef isn't in any of my clips. There isn't even any of her on the ArabClassicFilms Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/ArabClassicFilms/videos). There doesn't seem to be a lot of clips of her, almost as many tributes to her as originals, but I did find a few in particular rather interesting.

And this one led me to Fifi Ness's chanel

She has some nice classic clips (https://www.youtube.com/user/yafanissim/videos)

I'm going to have to watch more of Naima Akef. Her footwork is interesting and she really does love those turns doesn't she?

Yep, she does. She also liked those forward leg lifts and extensions and is about the only golden age dancer I can think of (okay, she is the only one I can think of) that went in for high kicks.

Re: Tahia's slit skirt. The slit is a tad startling but close it up a bit and that skirt with its tiers of fringe is one of my all time favorite costume pieces.

Tahia is in this clip of Badia Masabni's dancers. Can you find her? I can't.

Ah! To be that flexible! Floorwork, finger cymbals, backbend and a layback to die for! What's not to like?

I'm used to seeing another clip from that same film. Someone in my facebook friends posted another clip of Vincent Price. In another scene, Vincent is eating an apple and seems equally as interested in eating it as watching a lady do a public harem dance.

Nope I was wrong. It's the exact same clip on my friend's facebook page. The only difference being I think she posted it through a Bellydance TV website and it came from that site minus the audio for some reason.

I do rather like it as well.. it started giving me ideas. If I was a professional dancer I think there would have been an homage in my future.

It would take someone with better eye sight then I have.

I've heard those skirts with tiers of fringe referred to as "Egyptian-style" though I'm not sure why. Maybe because of clips like that one?

A Samia dance I haven't seen. Can really see the ballet influence here.
