2020 World Weather Thread

We had snow yesterday and this morning. Not the dreaded winter storm the Weather Wailers were predicting (4-7 inches! Batten down the hatches! Close the highways! Hide the babies and old men! Doom! Doom!) but the completely normal mid-April shower of about 4-7 inches of fluffy white stuff. I've lost my tolerance for overblown predictions of meteorological doom and disaster. When a big storm does come along, no one is going to believe it after all the screams of "Weather wolf!"

End of April was nice, May have been cold and the past days it has been snowing unusually heavy.

I'm sorry you're getting snow Diamona. That sounds miserable after the long winter.

Here it's really nice. This is BBQ weather. Yes, I know most people most places BBQ in the summer but it's to hot here then. Our BBQ time is May and most of June, July and August are right out unless you have a really nice shade to stand in. All the events we would have been BBQing at have been cancelled though so as soon as I'm feeling better I intend to hold my own family BBQ. Time to start putting the sun shades up in the car too.

It's supposed to be in the 80s by Sunday. We'll see. Theoretically our last frost date in this area is May 22. I have lost gardens on June 2, though, so I never feel very confident about warm weather until around July 4th. Got all three of my new roses planted. Last one went in the ground today. Tomorrow: mulching. The heady excitement of my life never ends. Tsk. And to think they want me to go back to work INSIDE next week.

Yesterday was the first day we didn't have fresh snow in a week. I've experienced pretty cold May months earlier and some snow, but not this much.
The weatherforecast for next week isn't too bad, though; Temperatures rising, a gentle (freezing) breeze and no precipitation. We'll see if it actually happens or not.

Did you say what part of Norway? There are great differences in climate from one place to another.

Hey, I know where that is. And they still have app. 1 yard of snow on the ground.

Spring is finally arriving. The sun felt warm today, and it was actually more sun than rain - and most important: no fresh snow.

And today it is a glorious morning. A blue sky, not a cloud in sight, no wind and a temperature of 4 C (at 0700) which might rise up at least two digits in a couple of hours. Trees are getting greener and my chives are already larger than last year despite the revisiting winter lately (my chives didn't do too well last year).

Full sun, 78*F, UV-very high, and the air is highly polluted thanks to a series of fires we've had the last two weeks. We're starting to wonder if there is a arsonist involved.

I covered my roses in anticipation of lows in the mid-thirties tonight.

Spring finally arrived with sun and warm temperatures (almost 20C), so I headed for the mountains this weekend (8-12C) to go skiing.

And then suddenly summer arrived (26C). Went hiking in the nearby hill yesterday. Surprisingly still some snow up there.

77 degrees here, going for a high of almost 90. Windy but not so bad that one has to lean into the wind to walk. I imagine there will be pockets of snow on the mountain well into June. This time of year, I'm glad we didn't buy a house up there. I like spring.
