okay, one more -NinjaBellydace! Shimmy your opponent into exhaustion, throw your ninja stars (that are also conenient for decorating your belts) at a sleazy guy making stupid comments, use your ninja sword for balancing and for getting that inapporpriately dressed hussy off the stage. Violent and exciting!

I could do that, I've been exercising Ninjutsu for several years:lol: But then only in a black costume and wearing a mask;) Here comes the belly-kunoichi (female ninja)
Why actually do you think I dance with swords, canes and candles? And even the veil is death weapon in my hands:lol: So, take care.

Oh, dear, I can't find it now but I've seen a VERY early silent movie short showing a "Princess Rahah" at the 1904 St. Louis Exposition. She's a pretty little thing with one of those hourglass figures created by an iron corset, hair piled on her head and a dress with a bell-like, shin-length skirt.

She comes prancing on a stage and does, if I remember right, a pretty credible shimmy all over the place before going over to a straight, wooden-looking chair, picking it up only WITH HER TEETH and swinging it merrily around the stage while she dances.

What she called this style I haven't a clue.

Then I recently saw an episode of "CSI: Las Vegas." There's a scene in which rich partgoers are amusing themselves while they wait for a big ol' casino to be demolished.

The party entertainment is a pair of what looks to be belly dancers with Louise Brooks haircuts and dark, 2-piece pants-and-bra putfits. Hard to tell as the show kept running the scene in slo-mo, but the dancers appeared to be gyrating within flaming hula hoops. Not big flames, just little ones licking the edges of the hoops, but still...

Belly dancing a la hula hoops o' fire?

Belly dance tango  Obviously their teacher doesn't know anything about bellydance or tango:

And those costumes are weird for little girls IMO.

moon:

i like that clip a lot and i can see a lot of potential from the choreography.
i would love to be able to do that sort of fusion. it's very modern but not so much bellydance that i can see, except for a few moves here and there.

do you have the link? or info on the school?

i agree with you about the costumes. and i may be a fuddy duddy but for some reason i do not find this dance appropriate for little girls. the costume and the choreography should be tailored to children, not children tailored to doing an adults dance.

This clip is just wrong in so many ways.... Heavy Metal Bellydance? Killing two things I love

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j6SG0sLi8Xs

The sad part is the concept could work, there are a few Middle East based metal bands out there that blend traditional ME instruments with metal, add to that music better costumes and some head banging and I'd have a new obsession.

No idea but it scared me

Now this is what good Middle Eastern Metal fusion sounds like, just in case you were wondering (and I do dance to this just for fun)

Thanks Nicknack, that sounded great. What was the song about?

There is a central theme running throughtout the album which is the story of the flood (actually an amalgamtion of various flood myths from different cultures) hence the name "Mabool" meaning the flood. This song is the "entering the ark" part of the story.....There's a more detailed explanation somewhere can't find it at the moment.

The Star Wars belly dance is an old idea, first saw it at WorldCon 83 (as in when the Lea slave costume was popular). Costume Con (forget which year) had the Klingon Hula.

The metal dance bit, they needed more practice but had some promise.

Ah, found the link to their site Metalgoddess It was from when they debuted in 2002. Oh, and they're chicks.
