Camp "Negum" - Egyptian Live Music and Belly Dance Festival
Camp Negum is a unique belly dance Festival in Egypt. Our event gives dancers direct contact with the music and cultural behind Raqs Sharki. Our festival is small and personal so dancers can get to know one another, the teachers and the musicians. Our teachers are some of the biggest stars to have performed or are currently performing in Egypt. Safaa Farid’s Orchesta Negum is the worlds most recognized and respected orchestra for dancers. The members of Orchestra Negum have collectively played for most of the famous dancers in Egypt over the last 25 years.

Camp Negum privides a one-of-a-kind dance experience in that many of the classes and all of the performances are to live music!

Camp Negum is a noncompetitive event and an all-inclusive price makes it affordable to dancers. As well as master instruction and performances, CampNegum offers the opportunity to experience the culture of Egypt with performances by authentic, local folk groups and excursions to cultural sites.

Camp Negum festival also gives dancers the chance to relax. Our Dahab Camp on theRed Seaoffers world-class diving and snorkeling, dessert excursions to Bedouin campsites and pristine beaches. Our Luxor/Aswan Cruise offers the most amazing ancient wonders of Pharonic Egypt while cruising down the Nile. There is something for the whole family.

Leila Farid (one of the most popular and respected performers in Egypt today)

created Camp Negum to foster respect for the music, musicians and traditions of Egyptian dance while allowing performers to gain a deeper understanding of Raqs Sharki and in the process to find their own voiceand style.

I would love to attend. I've asked Leila how much a single supplement would be as I will most likely be travelling alone. Perhaps you can assist Tatiana?

I will try to tell you a little about the work shops and the teachers.

LEILA FARID

will teach only 1 two-hours WS - "Dancing to live Music"

It is a practical lesson on the interaction with the orchestra in improvisation (Beledi, Shaabi, the song). Leila as always tells in details about the laws of the work with a live orchestra, shares the secrets of sign communication with the musicians, gives valuable advices to participants of a class after their improvisations. The benefit of this lesson is usually seen even during the current festival: girls feel more confident on stage and dance better than before, especially those who first time encountered the performance with live orchestra.

NELLY FOUAD

She was born in Alexandria, but became a star in Cairo.
She was very popular and one of the best in the 70s, because of her light technique, typical for Alexandrian dancers, cheerful manner and nice personality.

Nelly Fouad - YouTube

She stopped to perform in the mid-80s because remarried.
Now she is a regular teacher of the festival "Ahlan Wa Sahlan".

Unfortunately, there is a little information about Nelly Fouad, but I remember when I began to engage in oriental dance, I saw at first video cassette from Egypt, which it was miraculously get it at that time, an amazing dancer wearing a hat...

Nelly Fouad - YouTube

And now ... Am I really lucky to meet her, meet and talk? God forbid!

Madame Nelly will teach 2 work-shops:

- Beledi - technique and manner.

- Oriental style technique and choreography.

Our campnegum website is not working at the moment. It was hacked and now there is a pornographic photo where the site used to be. But Leila has been working with the company to get it back and they say it will be on-line tomorow... we hope))
If you need any information about the camp before the site is back on-line just send me a message here.

Thank you gisela! This is indeed an experience! Nice to see how the lessons learned in the camp makes dancers more confident and more experienced. Starting from the last camp a new tradition was created : for the best and regular camp participants was granted the opportunity to perform with live orchestra with a comlete bellydance show with a changing of costumes. We have seen successful performances of Marta Korzun of Ukraine (she was 3 times in camp), Tatiana Dorosh of Russia (3 times), Lana (Lucia) of Russia (2 times) and Yasmin Al-Asuan of Russia (3 times). I hope that the organizers will be able to continue this tradition in future

DANDASH

Dandash was born in Alexandria in an artistic family. Her dancing career began there - for some time she performed in the "Sofitel" hotel, where attracted the attention of impresario from Cairo. Soon she moved to Cairo, where she became the real super star of the nightclubs. She is an incredible talented artist, creating the dance as a comic and dramatic heartfelt images, leaves no one indifferent. Dandash is an almost unique example of dancing in the awalim style. Mahmoud Reda had once told her: "You are the real alma", that is a dancer which can entertain the viewers and by dancing, and by acting, and even by vocal, makes people and to laugh and to cry at the same time - it was so with us at the previous camp during her show:

DANDASH at CAMP NEGUM/ 2011 - YouTube

Dandash teaches WSs in a purely Egyptian style "I Dance; You Follow", but as Leila Farid writes in his article, "I Dance; You Follow" (http://www.gildedserpent.com/art38/LeilaIdanceUfollow.htm ): "When the teacher is improvising or creating a choreography on the spot the student begins to understand the creative process within the teacher in choosing those steps to interpret the music. An Oriental dancer who has spent many years on stage will make up new moves and movement patterns in front of an audience. As a teacher, she will also do this in front of the student, giving a sense of the organic qualities of the dance form. By following the teacher, a student can start to understand the subtleties and nuances of the dance as well as it"s technical elements. The result might be that of a dancer who is free from a reliance on choreography and methodology and is better able to interpret the music".

The dance of Dandash at first glance seems simple, but there's so many unexpected nuances and decisions, as well as an incredible technique of hips, inherent only to her! It is no one like her!:) Undoubtedly, communication and training with her incredibly useful, fill the soul and inspire.

To your attention 2 two-hours classes from Dandash:

- Modern Song
- Cabarette Classic

And, of course, her show on teachers-party!
