The best performances I 've seen ever were from Nergiz, my teacher in Istanbul. She has no parallel in technique, esthetic movement and original style reminding russian ballet movements mixed with pantomime. And also very feminine...
The worst performance was two weeks ago when I was in Istanbul in Gar Casino Hall...The girl was turkish, she had great hair but appart from that... Completely unelegant, a disgrace. She even took some persons from the audience and led them to do some of her gross movements (touching and moving their bum and stuff like that)! Poor guys!

Could that have been this girl? (That's one of the worst bellydancers I've ever seen.

No, this is Zumre, another fake dance star in Turkey! There are lots of them!

Hi Moon, I would agree Zumrece is a terrible dancer in any gnenre. When I first started dancing, I ordered a costume from Turkish Emporium, well they sent me a VCD featuring Zumrece as a gift(yuck). Even as a brand new newbie I thought her dance style was the worse I'd ever seen.

Did you read the youtube comments? Fortunately, most agree she's terrible. But one or two keep repeating she dances differently because it's Turkish Roman and not Turkish bellydance. What a shame for Turkish Roman dance!

Best. Hmmm well thats a tougher one than worst!
I have seen some outstanding performances but cant remember names very well LOL. I must say I really enjoyed a BellyFunk performance at a show last year. Was great and really got the audience into it.

    Worst was a toss up
Worst dancing was by 2 indonesian girls in a resturant in Bali. They tried and danced every night but it was awful to watch.
But there was also a guest dancer at a harem party I went too. While I will admit she was a fantastic dancer her costume.... Ughhh. A beautiful piece but she had obviously gained some considerable weight since she bought it as she was barely able to stay in it. Nothing against the larger dancer but costuming is everything and this costume detracted from her dance skill.

The best performances that I saw on videos/dvds are shows of my favorite old dancers Samia Gamal, Naima Akef and Najwa Fouad...It is ALWAYS a great pleasure to watch them over and over again...It never gets boring...
The best live shows I saw were definitely Khaled Mahmoud, Tito and Nour..They are magnificant!!!Ohh, I almost forgot to mention a great, great, great dancer..I had a chance to have a seminar with her and to see her live show in my town- Sandra Kahloun from Nice, France (www.danse-orientale.com)...

I must agree with above metioned...Zumre is one of the worst dancers I had a chance to see and there are sooooo many of them..

I had even ordered her DVD from a Turkish costume seller, because he recommended it and I payed 30€ and when I got it and watched it I got really angry, because of the money I spent on this s..t She doesn't dance at all on the DVD, she just posses and moves a bit and exposes her body in different costumes. I complained to the costume seller about the DVD, but the idiot just answered, that it was a matter of taste and although the DVD was a bit defect, he didn't accept to take it back. That's why I never ordered a costume there again
But, if I am honest, I've seen even lot worst dancers than Zumre. Here in Germany you find unfortunately many horrible amateur dancers, who pretend to be professionals (they have such a disturbed self-image that they seriously think, they are good enough for it) and it is really embarrassing to watch them dancing. Don't get me wrong: I'm not telling that all German belly dancers are like that. There are quite some very good dancers over here, but also quite some really really bad dancers

Luckily Zümre´s "reign" at Turkish dance scene was very short as she got mixed in some drug scandal and after that she has not been seen much. But it must be understood also that she was mostly famous because of her great looks and posing nude or scantily clothed than because of her dancing. As that Turkish vendor was obviously man I somehow can understand why he maybe liked Zümre more than we do

Well, luckily most of the current Turkish dance stars really can dance... although Eylül seems to be favoured by some vendors (she is the new face of Sim Moda Evi )even though I think that she is as bad or even worse dancer as Zümre

Is that Eylul above in the blue? I think she's a much better dancer than Zumre. She is 1)actually dancing to the music, and 2) has style. Not my favorite style, but she isn't just posing, or flailing around.

I was hoping this thread would go away, but it refuses to die. So I've indulged myself by adding to it.
