A flip phone? Is that what she's looking for? I have one in good condition (original packaging) in the kitchen drawer. It might still have $50 pre pay on it. She's welcome to it. Let me see if the phone number is in the box too. I'll check tomorrow morning.

I appreciate the offer and if you’re serious I’ll put you in touch with her to see if it will work, but it may not. All the services are upgrading to 5g networks and the older phones can’t use them. It’s why she was forced to upgrade in the first place.

Her phone service no longer had any models available. If that changes she's there.

For the record I love my smart phone but... the longer I have it the more I just use it like a phone. Now my husbands phone...
You don't have to purchase from the carrier - or you can switch for that matter. I'm with Consumer Cellular, they're cheap, pretty darn good, and have a decent flip phone available directly from them. Or you can bring your own.

I'm serious, but it's definitely not a 5G phone.

It needs to be 4G LTE - all the carriers are turning off 2G and 3G services this year.

Hmm. I have no idea if my phone is a smartphone or just one of average intelligence. My son gave it to me. I turn everything off except the phone, having no need to activate internet or GPS or the ability to say, "George, what is the population of Inner Mongolia during tourist season?" I do like texting. I don't hear as well as I used to, especially over the phone, and have no desire to talk to folks when a sentence or two is sufficient to make whatever plans are needed.

I turned off texting. Texting is fine for - and was intended for - short messages like "I'm running late" or "Pick up some milk while you're out" and the like. Problems start when people want to have long messages/conversations that really should be on email. If you're older than about 16, send me an email or call me if you must!

The nail in the coffin was a couple of years ago when I "suddenly" started getting SPAM texts. I told my wife "I'm not paying for this crap.", turned it off and pocketed the $2.50/mo texting fee I was paying. I don't miss it and email is much better. Phones (of any kind) and I are NOT a good combination to start with. I have a 4G Samsung ruggedized flip - I don't like the "candybar" form factor. I wouldn't have a cell phone of any type except that A) I drive a 37 year old car, and B) There are no more pay phones.

It's an LG-B470 (2016, that's what the insert says). Past that I have no idea.
Its *apparently* a 3G phone from what little I could find on the 'net. 2016-ish was when they were crossing over from 3G to 4G, my Samsung flip is a bit older but supports 4G. Go figure.

Sounds like. Thank you for offering anyway.

I’ll pass it on, thanks.

Interesting. I don't think I've ever gotten spam texting.

Ohhhh spam. Everyone once in a while I'll get something from the My Pillow guy (who I'd like to smoother with said pillow for spamming my phone). Have to click on the telephone number and sometimes it takes going into the number several times, to block his spammy ways.

I absolutely, positively hate, loathe and detest SPAM of any kind. Almost, but not quite as much as I hate facebook and smartphones. I normally don't answer the phone if its an unrecognized number - unless I'm expecting a call from an unrecognized number. Answered an unrecognized number just yesterday - but instead of the call I was expecting, it was some lowlife who had gotten my number from public records who wanted to know if was interested in a cash offer on a property that they think I own. I have an interest in it, but I'm not the owner. My response was unprintable and delivered at a rather high volume level. Bastards.

Spammers have ruined email, texting, and telephones, and have made life hell on the wider Internet as well. I can't say anything more on the subject as it would be nothing but **** **** **** **** and ****!!!!!

Spammers aren't anyone's favorites. I just eliminated nine from our membership approval queue in one go. I check in a couple of times a day to keep up and I know other moderators eliminate ones I don't catch. Some slip past the program but are identifiable by their stupid names. Zap, zap, zap. I don't care if they don't come up on the official bad guys list, they get eliminated on sight.

I'm here several times a day, and ZAP SPAMmers too. Anything with 50 million periods in the name, .RU or Yandex addresses get shot on sight with extreme prejudice. I think I actually approved exactly one application that turned out to be legit...

zap almost every time I log in. Found one the other day with an email adress resembleing a pretty well known Norwegian comedians name. I was not fooled, but got a good laugh from it (even if unintended).
