Bashed, battered and badly bent

Hi...

I just got out of the hospital after two days in the emergency for injuries and emergency dental surgery. Some idiot at the grocery store was not watching what he was doing while backing out of a parking lot and knocked me out of my wheelchair. I now have two fat lips, two broken teeth and a broken wrist. And my wheelchair has been totaled. Yes, I'm going to sue.

Good heavens! So sorry to hear this. He must've been backing pretty fast to do such extensive damage. Take care of yourself and recover quickly.

Hi...

I'm doing a lot better. The dental surgeon is waiting for the gum trauma to settle before doing any advanced surgery. I go to visit him November 30th. The wrist is going to take a bit longer -- 2 to 3 months. I'm still in a lot of pain, though. Luckily (if you can call it that) I was thrown from my wheelchair. Had I been buckled in it, I wouldn't be writing to you today.

I've hired a lawyer to see about having my wheelchair replaced and being repaid the expenses that my medical/dental does not cover. She says that the charge of "reckless driving causing bodily harm" should cover most of it. I don't want it to get complicated and drawn out but if he asks for a fight -- by <supply your own vitriolic expression here> he's going to get one.

Thank you all for your messages of concern, comfort and encouragement. They were much appreciated. I'll keep you posted as things progress.

Hi...

I tried to upgrade everyone's reputation but I think I messed up. My apologies to anyone who got a negative reputation. I really do appreciate all the concern shown by all of you.

You wouldn't be the first to zig when you intended to zag while adding rep. Glad you are doing better and weren't wearing your seat belt.

Hi...

Okay, an update. I'm feeling a lot better. My lips are almost completely healed and the gums about my two broken and loose teeth are healing and should be firm in about another month. Then I'll be looking into having them capped. My wrist is still immobilized except for my fingers. You should see the way I am trying to type this e-mail. The verdict is still out as to whether I shall lose any mobility once the cast is off. I may not be playing my zills any time soon.

It looks like I will not have to pay out of pocket for a new wheelchair. I wasn't aware of it until yesterday, but it seems that my father took out insurance on it when he bought it. Although, both he and my lawyer are saying that I should not need to touch that insurance to have my wheelchair replace because it is the other guy whose at fault and it should be his insurance that pays for it. This is rapidly getting very complicated. I'm hoping to get this done and over with quickly and cleanly.

I'm still, however, in a lot of pain and the medications I'm on are making me feel really dopey. Another thing I hope I can get over quickly.

And that, for the moment, is all the news that's news. Thank you all again for your kind messages of comfort, concern and encouragement. It really, really helps to have all of you thinking of me.

It is just awful what happened to you. You seem to keep you spirits up quite well, which is admirable. I wish you a speedy recovery!

Making progress -- albeit slowly

Hi...

Well, it looks like I'm going to lose a tooth. I had x-rays done and the one tooth is broken off just above the roots so it is only the gum that's holding it in place. There is a chance I may lose the one beside it. There is a black spot below it and the dental surgeon says that if it is just a blood clot then the hopes of saving it are high, however, it it turns out to be an abscess from an infection then there is little hope of saving it. At any rate, it looks like I will be getting a denture with one or two teeth in it. (That makes me feel so old!)

The wrist is still awfully painful but luckily I have not lost any mobility. It will still be a few months yet before a can play the sagat with that hand without it causing screaming pain although the doctor is saying that I should try playing for as long as I can take the pain so that wrist does not seize up and I lose muscle tone in that hand.

Yesterday was my dad's birthday. It was just the two of us so we went for a quiet lunch together at a Japanese restaurant. The nice thing was all the staff came out to sing him a birthday song in Japanese then they presented him with a kind of pudding-cake with a candle on top.

Most of the time, I sit bored out of my skull. I can't go anywhere without my wheelchair and although I have crutches, the stress on my wrist is too much to use them. My brother, Ælfstangard, has entered a young writers competition for a original novel length story. The winner gets an award and his book published. It will be an e-book so if he wins, I shall post the link to it here. Right now I'm proofreading for him.

That's all the new that's news.

Back at work

Hi Everyone...

I am well enough now to go back to work. In the new year I shall be going overseas with a Canadian health specialist team to do medical assessments of the refugees who will eventually be coming to Canada. There are many heart disorders caused by virii, bacteria and parasites that need to be screened for. I just hope that I do not end up somewhere where I shall also be dodging bullets. That and the chance of contracting any of diseases I'll be screening for are always risks I have to take in my line of work.

Anyway, I want to wish you all a Happy Holiday Season and the Best of the New Year. May you find peace with G-d as you envision Her.
