Belly Dancing Holidays in Egypt.

Hello everyone!

I have been mulling over the thought of going to Egypt for a Belly Dance holiday for both training and fun. Probably not any time soon, I think I will wait until Egypt is a bit more settled until I go. But I would be looking for specifically Folkloric and/or Egyptian style and I was just wondering if anyone has done this, how much it cost, where you went, what the experience was like and anything else you can think of! Also if you have any travel stories you wish to share related to Egypt or just travel in general please do =]

I hope this is the right place to put this thread! Sorry if it isn't

From what I've read online from other dancers, now is a fantastic time to go to Egypt. No queues, no crowding, and the local people are desperate to see the tourist trade return.

I only have experience of Egypt from a non-dancer's perspective, but I can really recommend this time of year, before it gets soul-sappingly hot!

I'd recommend hooking up with someone like Yasmina or Caroline - they run (ran?) Bed and Breakfasts, teach, speak fluent Egyptian, have tons of contacts. Don't try it on your own. Contacts are vital - Cairo isn't a phonebook and street map type of city. One of the big festivals is also a good stepping off point.

Here's what we did with Amera in 2009

Caroline Afifi and I were planning to take a group this year. We need to figure out whether to go forward with it, considering the recent developments in Egypt. For example, I've heard that none of the Nile cruise ships are running yet because they don't have enugh passengers to make it worthwhile.

Anyway, chances are we'll do it next year, though we don't have any dates specifically set aside yet. You can see what we were planning for 2011 here: Egypt Live! Behind the Sphinx and the Sequins, with Caroline and Shira

Hi Imeera,
Farida Adventures run specialist belly dance holidays to Cairo and Luxor, they have one in February called 'music and culture' and a live music and dance once in Luxor in December, so they would definitely be worth checking out. Sorry I'm new to these forums so I may be posting completely wrong but here is the link to their website It's not just a bellydance holiday, it's a Farida Adventure
