I'm a student, young and quite very possibly naive. I hope to be a pro... one day.

I've been seeing this kind of thing on a few websites of professional bellydancers and bellydance teachers.

"Introducing the latest fad / craze/ style exclusive to/invented by (insert dancer's name) RAQS-A-GO-GO (or some such - often a fusion)"

This bothers me, but I can't put my finger on it. Perhaps it's the overt commercialisation, or the fact that I don't see how an entire style can be created by one individual, or maybe even that it is just too obvious an attempt to stand out from the crowd, when really the quality of the dancer ought to speak for itself?

how do you guys feel about it?

yep i totally agree that anyone having to reinforce the issue of being the expert in something implies desperation and a need to stand out.It implies to me they are worried about their own abilities....as for dance names i see why ,but expectations from hrrania of halexandria are far more pressured than expectations of jane doe from connetticut...The name some time supercedes the quality of the dance ability !!

I think the pressure to be "unique" and to find your niche often supercedes any logical marketing that these folks may be trying to do. If you can't be stellar at something that exists...then be the best at something you create.
