Hi all !!!
Last week we had this thing going on at Crete / Greece.

Girl's 'revenge by flaming sambuca': Greek hailed a heroine after lap attack on Briton | Mail Online

As by accident was for my vacations just 3 km of Malia, we went with my husband to see the situation... just horrible.
I really dont know what is the truth with this thing, but I can say about the situation in Malia, and also 3 other same style villages around Greece (and add Agia Napa at Cuprys).
Its the most embarassing thing that for me starts from the greek idiots that want to make money !!
All the places were seeling beers for just 1 euro from 5 afternoon to 13-15 year old girls and boys from UK, by the time of 8, all the strees were full of teenagers total drunk, vomiting all over, doing crazy things.
The greek police should close these places that sell booze to under 18 (this is the greek law), but its like they close their eyes.
Its a sad situation.

Well thanks for that Maria...yes I abhor the behaviour of idiot Brits abroad and the parents who allow their kids to put themselves in such danger but there is the side you mention: The people who sell the booze and make money out of this..if they weren't there...!!!

And what was a nice girl doing in Bar Street?
I
f I go to Cyprus, I go to Polis or Paphos
If I go to Ibiza I go to Santa Eulalia
If I go to Majorca I go to Puerto POllensa
and my sister is in Corfu with her partner and son..in Sidari not Kavos!

heh I just love media stories where the people involved keep changing their story. You know that means someone is lying already. Still for someone to light someone on fire takes a level of stupidity I can't even imagine. No matter what he did, she could have easily left or reported him to the staff of the bar. Considering she's changed her story at least twice already if not three times based on other media reports, It makes me wonder how innocent she really is.

At the same time, Tourists that leave home can really act like morons. Manners and common sense do not go flying out the window cause you are on vacation. Sheash.

I love how in the article there is a picture of the boy's parents looking all sad. "He's not the kind of lad to get into trouble." Well clearly he was sexually harassing someone, exposing his privates, and getting drunk. Just because he is your little dumpling doesn't mean he is innocent. Women don't set croches aflame unless provoked.

Hey your son can be angel to his mother and jack the lad with his mates. One of mine was an absolute pain at home to his long-suffering mother but everyone at school said "What a charmer!" Booger me but probably better that way around.
this kid was harassing someone in an area where that goes on all the time and so anyone with any sense would avoid a "bar street" in the Med . The gals that go there flash their tits, bare their arses in thongs and get bladdered.

I don't for one minute condone the behavoiur of either gender in those venues but I do wonder why she was there and hey who sells the stuff in such cheap and copius amounts? If "bar streets" didn't exist, if alcohol were as pricy as it was when I was a lass ( the Dark Ages of the 60s) we couldn't afford to get that bladdered, the phenomenah might just go away.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for these jack the lads and ladettes. They are a disgrace to my nation and a bloody nusiance for decent people living nearby but at home and sober, he might be an OK kid.

And she is denyng she did set him alight ..says it was his ciggie:confused:

When Lawyers get involved everything change !

a) No saint person goes to these places, boy's or girls, local or not.
b) The problem is very complicated and manytimes connected with the past on economics of an aera.
Malia 15 years ago was a very posh place in Crete to go.
And suddently the international tourism operators decided to give the 1/3 to the people that had the hotels etc.
So the owners of hotels didnt agreed and the operators left them without any clients.
For 3-4 years they tryed to survive with their own bookings but didnt worked.
And at that time 2 "new" tourist operators come and get 90% of the hotels (we are speaking for around 10.000 beds in one aera) for even less than what the first offer was.
And the deal is "flight-bed-breakfast" for a week, UK-Crete-UK, just 150 euro !! (120 Pounds), and they advertize it like teen-vacations.....
So the other "animals" decided to sell cheap booze to teenagers.
And the police is sitting back for political reasons.
We have many situations like this, at the begining the people are happy with the money and after... they freak out.
I dont pitty them, they deserve it, but i'm really worried about the kids on a wider cultural level.

Something like this happened also at my aera Chania, same time, but the people reacted different.
The hotels left empty and as we have work for imigrates the big "hotel's" became apparments for Bulgarians, Albanians, Georgian's and Russians.
We have different problems, I'm afraid at night to walk to my village, each "village" have a mafia and we had murders between them etc.
.......

Indeed, the lawers do change a story... Oh and the 'Saint' parents never wondered where and what they precious is doing? They can look so sad in the picture, but come on!

It is very sad that those poeple sell booze to kids and police to nothing... but it is so often the case with poor places... beggars cant be choosers,,, But local government should also review their position... what they want tourist money or any law and order....
