Fake tan

Hey guys.

I've never ever fake tanned and was wondering which brands people use and if tanning mitts are any good? And any tips you can offer me?

The reason I want to tan is because I'm having an experiemental few months and thought I'd give it a go, but don't want to look like I've been tango'd. Also wen i went home for xmas, all my family said I had gone all pale (cause they're all dark) and it didn't suit me :-( and since I don't live in a sunny place I thought I'd best top up on some fake sun in a bottle.

When I have to add some color, I used spray on tan by Sally Hansen. It is not a self tanner but a makeup for the body. You can choose from light, medium or dark. And it washes off in the shower. I got tired of self tanners because if you weren't so drop dead precise, you got smears in some parts, and too much in the bony areas, so this stuff works better for me. But I mostly use it for performing or just on my legs in the summer if I don't want to wear hose.

My family always thinks I'm too pale. I say screw them, this is what I look like naturally, and I don't want to spend the time and money and effort trying to fight nature. Nothing wrong with being pale!

Lacome makes a really good tanning lotion. it says tanning lotion for legs or something but i always put it on my face. lol. im a rule breaker like that. and i like the one that victoria's secret puts out every summer, but ya, they do streak if youre not careful. but i have olive skin naturally thats pretty pale. i can sun tan really well, but the effects arent worth it too me. :naghty:

do you ever wear sparkle lotion when your preforming? i used to think it was cheesy, but now i like it.

I have sparkle lotions and glitter dust, but I try to go sparingly on the dust, especially on my face. I don't want to look like a greasy pork chop or a sparkly vampire. xD

Does any one use gradual tan? I bought some garnier yesterday and used it last night and it isn't bad at all! No streaks! But I do smell like biscuits. :(

I don't use the bottled stuff, but I do frequent a tanning bed. Have you ever thought of doing like a mystic tan? My salon offers unlimited mystic tan for like..28$ I think? I'm not sure the exact cost, but I know my salon isn't the only one. Lots of places will offer unlimited spray tans for a certain cost per month.

If you're not familiar with mystic tan, it's like a spray tan in a booth so it coats all parts of you equally.

I don't know what kind of color you get from it -I've never done it - hopefully not orange-y looking!

I have a lot of experience in this subject :D

I have used many different kinds and my two faves are:

Loreal Sublime Bronze (tinded self tanning lotion in "Deep") - this one is creamy and easier to apply.

ModelCo's Tan Airbrush in a Can - this one gives a great brown color, but it's difficult to apply & is a bit pricey.
ModelCo Body - Moisturisers - Wipes - Creams - Scrubs

I hate self tanner but love looking tan, so if I feel the need, I do it. It smells weird and it always wears off uneavenly so your skin looks splotchy... but it's worth it if you want to look tan for something w/o getting a real one.

For the maximum benefits:

1) Exfoliate really well.
2) Make sure your skin is moisturized.
3) Shower just before putting it on. Never put on lotion after that shower! The tanner won't absorb as well. When I say "make sure your skin is moisturized, I mean up until the point that you take the shower that's just before putting on the self tanner.
4) Use disposable gloves.
5) When putting it on your ankles, knees, elbows, underarm crease & wrists, add a little lotion and mix it in the tanner on those areas.
6) Do the tops of your hands last by pulling back the gloves and rubbing just a little tanner (& maybe some lotion) over the tops of your hands. This will keep you from having a tan line end at your wrists.
7) Try to put it on just before bed and gently lay yourself flat or put on lose clothing and don't do any activities that will cause you to sweat or have your clothes rub against your skin.

Wait 8 hrs before showering. After that inital shower & the showers thereafter, make sure to put on lotion. The more moisturized you keep your skin, the longer the tanner will last ;)

I know this seems like a lot, but once you do it, it's really not difficult.

Oh, and when you put it on your face and it starts to wear off, it will wear off last by your pores, making them look more noticable for a couple of days. This is because it lasts the longest where the skin exfoliates the least. Since your skin is most moisturized where the pores are, that's where the tanner is going to come off last. I used to always wonder why my skin on my face always looked bad a few days after the tanner was coming off and then I figured it out. Now I just put bronzer on my face to kinda match my body.

Oooohhhhhhhh, thanks! :D I would rep but need to spread it a bit. I will ave to try this. What about feet? This seems to be my major problem. :( I can laugh at myself though.

I've eard of the L'Oreal one, they have it in Boots. I might give it a try. On the adverts though it looked very oragne-y.

And I did think about sunbeds, but a bit of a whimp  Lol. I might try it if my mates will go with me lol. Same with the Spray tan. I do want to try that.. how long does it last? I suppose you could top up with gradual tanners?

I can't really comment on this as I was born with a tan:lol: , but a friend of mine who has pale skin would only tan by the sun as she always said that a spray on tan and tanning bed ones don't look as good or can be over done, she would tan very well I have to say, but I don't really know much about it but I think without a tan is fine and looks good as well:D

Mixing lotion with the tanner first helps to avoid spotchy areas on the feet & ankles ;) I always start with my feet and work my way up- doing sections at a time.

Spray tan is basically the same- it just goes on differently. They all stay on about the same, anywhere from 2 days to a week, depending on your skin and activities. If you get a professional spray by someone, it's nice 'cause they can get it all over you evenly, even your back, but it lasts the same amount of time, so if you want to keep up with it, it will be pricey.

Tanning in a bed pretty much gives you the same tan as you would have in the sun. It's obviously bad for you, but sometimes I wonder if the chemicals in the self-tanners are just as bad, especially if it's a spray because you are inhaling it. It's probably not as aging though.
