Folk dance suitable for children?

Hello folks!

My boyfriend is a music teacher of grades 1-3 (basically ages 6-9) and he has heard my whine about how under-represented Arabic music is at the elementary level (I used to work in an elementary school and whined a lot). Every year he does a show with his first graders about music from around the world and he wants to include some music from the Middle East. He's already got a folk song from Israel but wants to include another. Any thoughts about a folk song from anywhere in the Middle East that possibly has a folk dance or even just a folk dance that is appropriate for 6 year olds?

Thanks!!!

Some debke steps are fairly simple and child friendly. There's a lot of really good debke music readily available. For example, the George Abdo CD's include "A Nada" (sometimes spelled "A Nedda") and "Haddouni". Another debke is Ya Ain Mouleyatten.

Debke can represent Syria, Lebanon, Palestine, and Jordan.

I was also going to suggest debke. Debk Dos by Conjuncto Oriental Sheik is a nice rhythmic dance- fast enough for fun, slow enough for easy learning. You can get it online.
