How's the weather?

Sixty two inches in December? Wow, it must be a amazing to live in a place that can summon up that much moisture in a month.

Bee-aye-oo-tee-ful weather today. Cold, crisp, sunny, little or no wind.

Weather

Dear Shanazel,
You think we had moisture before..... Yesterday it started raining and blowing, and we now are under a flood watch until at least Friday. I will have to go down and check to make sure there is no bad water seepage into the cellar. ( My house is 100 years old and we have mostly dirt floor down there. I try not to spend too much time down there, but I adore the rest of my house.)
We live in an area close to downtown that we have christened "Upper Ghetto". we used to live Lower Ghetto, about 6 blocks down the hill. I think there is little chance of it flooding much up here but I guess downtown was a mess last night.
Hopefully it will melt a little more of the snow as there have been a lot of roof collapses. I am just thankful there has not been an ice storm. They REALLY suck as everyone loses power and it takes days or even weeks in the middle of winter to get it all back on.
Regards,
A'isha

Visit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dear A'isha,

I can not swim, should i bring floatation devices when i visit??

Dear Mya,
If necessary, I shall carry you from place to place so that your feet do not even get wet. I can't have the weather causing any harm to you!!!!!!!!! That is unacceptable. Hopefully by February we will be in better shape and you can borrow my galoshes if necessary. I also own a lot of sweaters and socks, so we will keep you nice and toasty here in the Northwest.
Hugs to you,
A'isha

A'isha is about to drown and we are about to blow away. The wind broke one of the main leaders on my elm tree this week- a trunk about a foot in diameter. It is hung up on the rest of the tree and is too big for us to get down ourselves. I just hope we can get the tree trimmers out before it blows loose and takes our powerline down and lands on the garage roof. We just had the trees trimmed in the spring and this is going to make for a rather funny looking tree for a while. :(

Trees

Dear Shanazel,
Trees can be such a problem, but I love them and I am sure you feel the same.
We lost one of our 150 year old Locusts about a year and a half ago. The thing just started cracking vertically and we had to pay $ 2500 to get it removed, even though it was on city property. ( The city's property but home owners must pay maintenance. How's THAT for fair??) The urban forestry guy said it died of old age....??? It is no longer legal to plant more of that kind of tree in the city limits. They come out and give you a list of "acceptable" trees. But, the gods provided and we have been nursing along a sprout where it's Mom was. it's now about 7 feet tall. Nothing in the world smells as heavenly as a Locust in bloom.
Good luck with your tree limb. it is just amazing how heavy a foot around limb can be.... Be careful out there.
Regards,
A'isha

Good for your locust! LOng may she flourish and bloom! Acceptable trees, my eye. I swear I'd go find an African poisonwood somewhere and plant it after hearing that little rule. It wouldn't grow in Spokane, of course, but it's the thought that counts.;)

Too Hot

High 30s yesterday (over 100 for non-Celsius types). Up on a ladder gib-stopping most of the day. Non aircon; two showers. Then two back to back classes - temperture had dropped to 35 inside by then. Then, joy, a walk down to the beach and a dip. Maybe I could use it as a selling point - free ocean dip with every belly dance class.

Snowy, but warmer. Just a few sparkly lake effect snowflakes coming down. I went for a drive and listened to one of my new BD cd's. It was nice to get out.

Warmer today, around 40F. Snow is melting and there is water, mud and slush everywhere.

Warmer here, too, which means more howling wind. We're supposed to get another cold front through, so maybe that will slow the wind down.

Weather

Dear Shanazel,
My husband is building a school about 150-200 miles from home. The wind has been ferocious here, on occasion for the last couple of days, but there it was terrificly awful, I guess. One of his crews was building bleachers for the athletic field and they got blown over and tossed around, the bleacher, not the guys, thank goodness. In town we rarely see truly horrific winds because of the hilly land, etc, but out where he is working it is pretty much flattish desert. As a girl, I lived several times in tornado and hurricane locations and have a lot of respect for wind.
Our snow is melting like mad and I guess on the west side of the state there are some huge floods, while here we are having small ones. My dog was overjoyed to find a couple of her toys in the yard yesterday!
Regards,
A'isha

And speaking of windy conditions, this is my 5000th post. Seems an appropriate thread to announce such a thing, hmm? A'isha is right behind me. If she'd just play a few more games she'd catch right up.

A'isha, a lady from Wyoming retired in Florida and sat through one of the big hurricanes at home. Her comment: "Yeah, there was wind, but I'm used to wind. That rain was really something else, though!"

My son is a framer. I just try not to think about him walking on rafters in the wind.

Wait till you've been through a hurricane at sea.... on a ship.... with a busted engine.

Why don't you just tell me about it, Granddad? I suspect there are some things I'd rather learn from the experiences of others. I grew up on the Texas Gulf coast and went through one big hurricane (Carla) and several more that were "tropical storms" by the time they made landfall. But onboard a ship? No, thank you. I do know a geophysisist (I can never decide how many isisis to put in that word) who went through a hurricane locked in a sort of protective egg tossing in the gulf after the oil rig he was on got hit by a hurricane. Just thinking about it makes me seasick.
