There is a fair smattering of culture in 'Lawrence of Arabia', a good film too, and a bit of a blood boiler at times.

i'm not really looking for films that have a western persepective..but something told with an arab lens.

Hi kayshier

Check PBS/ Thirteen. org web site. There are so many documentaries related all over the world. I'm not sure what exactly you are interested about culture I mean, politics, religion, current affair, music, art, or anything, so just check PBS web site, and I'm sure you can find something that interested you.

Also check University of California's channel on YouTube. Mainly this channel is for lecture, but maybe something interest you about ME culture and history. YouTube - uctelevision's Channel

There's Natasha Senkovich's "The Bellydancers of Cairo" which is great.

For Egyptian background there is also "Umm Kulthum - A Voice Like Egypt" which has been recently released on DVD by Arab Film Distribution.

I'd also recommend the "Yacobian Building" - a movie based on an Egyptian novel about the lives of a group of Egyptians who share a building.

Then there is "The COlor of Olives" about a Palestinian family which I bought but haven't had a chance to watch yet.
