Spin-off from "long hair"

(Wow we are having lots of spin-offs, huh?)

STYLES!

Not just for long, but for short hair too. I read Amulya's last post and thought we could have this thread for ideas on danceable hair styles.

For instance, i'm in a current rut:

My hair is naturally wavy (not super tight like awesome mermaid hair, but medium, not loose waves), and when not straightened just reaches the back strap. it's also very full and poofy (<---ugh). tomorrow i am doing just one song at my very first Hafla in my new leopard print cossie. I do modern-turkish (at least that's the best i can call it) so yes there is some "hair dancing" but i dont do too much of it. my question is what would you suggest for my hair! obviously i want to leave it down. i dont have my curling irons, which sucks because i wanted to do big bouncy curls. so i'm stuck between full and straight and tight mermaid waves!

WWYD??

and of course other ideas for other hair types/styles/attitudes are welcome ;)

You can do a lot of different thing, if you don't like the poofy-ness, you can use a nice headband with sewuins, or beads (you can even combine that with a flower) to keep your hair from behaving badly.

I have just thought up a new style that I'm going to use for my next show:
2 high buns at the back/sides of my head, a headband with roses and the front of my hair curled. I have invented the easierst way to curl hair and you don't even need a styling iron:
take little sections of your hair, put in aloe vera gel along the lenght, twirl you hair around your finger till scalp and set with a clip. Do that with the whole front section and let it dry (you curl all your hair instead to get a style suitable for your dancing)
For me the curls become loose spirals, it take a bit of trial and error to get the right shape curl, you probably want to set them a little bit looser to get the type you want.
Curls made in this way stay the whole night! And no damage from curling irons :)

wow!! awesome!! well i had a severe wardrobe malfunction while i was practicing (thank god i practiced) so i had to back out of dancing at the hafla, but i'm just going as a viewer. nonetheless, i will def be trying this out!! do you think it would work with regular gel?

Pincurling (the technique Amulya is talking about) works best with a setting gel. But if you do it on wet hair and sleep with them in, they'll be very tight and last for DAYS! Also a great way to get your updos to stay is to pincurl them first. The curls make it easier to hold in ponytails, french twists, victory rolls, etc. Another great curl is using those pink sponge rollers. Again, use them wet overnight, and you get great curl.

I haven't tried regular gel (that's made of gelatine, eeew) but only aloe vera, the thing is, aloe vera is very good for your hair, it's good for dry ends, so I get the curls and it's nourishing :)
You can buy aloe vera gel in pharmacies, or healthfood stores, make sure it doesn't have alcohol in it, that's drying for hair. And make sure it got a very high percentage of aloe vera in it :)

Tricky!!! Why didn't you bring your curlers!??!
Can you wash and scrunch dry to get it nice and curly?
You know for next time, to take away the pain why don't you get a wig!? ( i would say that as i sell them!), but seriously have you thought about it? You don't need to do much styling and you can have any colour or length you like. Believe me it takes away so much hassle for me!
Anyway, i know that doesn't help you much now. So for now i would say nip to the shops if you can and get some frizz-ease scrunch dry serum, wash, towel dry and scrunch to get it nice and curly!
Good luck, hope the dance goes well.

well i love wigs! but i have pretty long hair to begin with and it has a nice color and because i use my hair a lot i'm iffy about getting some wigs. however, sometimes when the humidity is bad, i wish i could be bald so i could wear a different wig everyday and not have to worry about my freaking frizz lol

Ha ha! I know the frizz feeling, believe you me!
These days though wigs are pretty good and breathable so don't get too hot. But i can understand your nervousness if you use your hair a lot in dance you may feel it's not going to be secure enough. Unless you are really really used to wigs it, wearing a wig as a one off for a dance can make you feel pretty uneasy!
