Holland has shockingly gone down in rates since I left :

The Netherlands:

**Restaurants: 75 euro for two 10 minute shows **Private parties: 175-200 euro for 15/20 minute show **Corporate parties: 15/20 minute show 200+ euro. **Cultural events, charity etc: 75-150 euro **Classes: 7E/hr, Private classes: 20 Euro **Bachelorette party, or party "workshop": 2 hours, 200 E for up to 10 people. 20 E per person over 10.

Australia:

Sydney: Restaurants $120-$150 for 2 x 12 min shows with 30 min interval.
Perth: Restaurants $80-$100 for 15-20 min show. Other venues: $100-$150 per dancer for 15-20 min show. Double New Years Eve.
Parties $200 for dancer, or $150/per dancer (if troupe) for 15-20 min show. Or $250 and up for 2 x 15 min shows.

SHOCKING! Parties should be $300-$350...

Why have prices gone down for belly dancers and everything else has gone up...

Just out of curiosity, what if the standard rate has been set by one company who you feel quite certain is over charging clients for performances? IF you disagree with that rate of pay and find it exploitative, is it still unfair to charge less??

One company's rates may not be the only thing to consider; however, I think you need to look around at other professions that are similar. I have never yet met a PROFESSIONAL belly dancer who felt they needed to charge less (unless they were undercutting). I'm not saying that you are this person, but I think you need to seriously look at the arena you are entering and how it would hurt you and everyone around you if you don't value yourself enough to get paid a fair wage. It's a lot easier to start high and then lower your rates vs starting low and raising your rates. And remember...this is a business, not a hobby.

It would be helpful to know A) What area of the world you are in...and B) What the company is charging. You will get some honest feedback from the professionals here if you can post that information.

Yes that is a great resource, have been valuing it for years now! Particularly handy if you're a bellydancer who moves around a lot.
