A prayer for my Dad

Well, my life this past week has been filled with worry and pain for my Dad. Last Thursday night my dad was admitted into the hospital for a bad case of pneumonia and a life-threatening blood infection. I found out last Friday, when I called to see how they were. My mom told me the bad news and what was going on. After 2 days of worrying if he was going to make it, He started coming around and started to feel better. The lab work showed that the blood infection (septicemia), was very serious. This prompted the doctor to ask how my dad could have gotten the infection. It was narrowed down to my dad having some dental work the week before. On Monday, he was feeling so much better, that we thought he would go home. However, the ultrasound reported that the infection was in his heart valve and it was bad. More blood work and tests were ordered. Today my dad had an angiogram and an Echocardiogram done. The results showed that it was a severe infection. (Endocarditis.) The doctor put a pic line in for administering antibiotics. My dad will be able to go home in a few days, but he will have to go back to the doctor's clinic everyday for over a month for IV antibiotics. After the therapy is finished, the cardiologist will do more testing to see if the valve/s are damaged. I love both my parents dearly, as everyone does, but I am so worried about his health so I thought prayer for him would help him out....

For any Catholics or Christians out there...Or for anyone who wants to pray for my dad or for those who are sick and suffering...

The Lord's Prayer:pray:

Our Father...
who art in heaven
hallowed be thy name
Thy kingdom come
thy will be done
on Earth as it is in heaven
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our tresspasses
As we forgive those who trespass against us
And lead us not into temptation
But deliver us from Evil
Amen

Kute Nurse, I join the prayers for your dad and I wish with all my heart that he recovers completely very soon. I'm sure he'll make it:D What would help to regenerate his immune system is Reiki. Have you heard of it? It is an energy therapy from Japan. Maybe there is a good Reiki practitioner in your area.

Adding more good thoughts to the rest. At least they have discovered the infection and are treating it. Take care KuteNurse, hoping everything turns out well.

Dad, etc.

Dear Kutenurse,
Here's hoping that things go very well for your Dad. I live in dread and mortal fear of getting Endocarditis as I have a mitral valve issue. I hope for his speedy recovery.
Regards,
A'isha

I have not heard of it...I will do some researching and see what I can come up with. Thanks Chryssanthi for your well wishing and for caring.

A'isha, I hope you remain healthy. That is scary. Do you get antibiotics before going to the dentist?

It is amazing how close we have become on this forum even though many of us have never met one another personally. I really feel cared about when times are hard in my real life. Thankyou everyone for caring and for your prayers. I am happy to report that my dad is home from the hospital doing much better. He is actually sleeping and he is comfortable at home. He goes in everyday for an infusion of antibiotics, but he is doing much better. My mom reports that he is driving to the clinic daily. I worry about the long term affect on his heart...But I guess I will have to take it one day at a time and hope for the best.

Dear Kuternurse,
Actually, there has been a long controversy about whether or not the antibiotic is helpful, or getting more harmful as bacteria seem to be building immunities. Until my last dental visit, yes, I always used antibiotics. I have an antibiotic phobia due to an allergic reaction many years ago, so it was like living through a slice of hell. The latest reports by the AMA say that they are probably not necessary and may be problematic in the long run, but your father may be a strike against the latest thinking on this.
I am so glad he is feeling better and I hope that his heart is fine at the end of it all.
Regards,
A'isha

A'isha, I was talking to a doc that I work with about antibiotics and how they may be doing more harm than good just a couple of days ago. The doctor who I won't mention, said it may be a tough road ahead for all of us due to bacterial resistant infections and the new bacterial infection MRSA. (Methocillin resistant staph Aureus.) So many doctors just prescribe them to get patients off their backs when the doctors really should be screening and making sure that what the patient has is an infection. Also, patients need to be educated on how to use the antibiotics which is not done most of the time. I am glad my dad is home. My mom developed an upper respiratory infection because she was stressed out through all this, but she sounded much better on the phone today. They both need normalcy in their lives and some good rest.
