Hello all,
I have this dilemna and I was wondering what everyone was feeling about it.
My son is 19 and most who know me, know I talk about cycling quite a bit because my son races. I like attending his races and cheering him and others on during the race.
Here is my dilemna....For the most part, I try to stay out of his racing because he is an adult and makes his decisions by himself. I will only say something if he asks me what I think.
This past Saturday, my son placed 3rd in a road race and he won $40.00. I stayed in the car while he socialized and received his prize money. While I was waiting, I saw another rider who had a envelope with prize money. I thought to myself, he did not place well enough to receive prize money. Well, my son came back to the car and told me they lost his prize money. At that point, I didn't put it together, I just encouraged my son to go back and talk to the race director and to get his prize money before we left. My son came back with a check written out to him for the amount he won.
It was when I got home and was able to get onto the computer when I was looking at the race results when I noticed that sure enough. The cyclist who had the envelope, had indeed not placed well enough to have received prize money in an envelope. I feel certain given his past history that he was the one who stole my son's prize money.
Here is the dilemna...Should I post on the Minnesota cycling website something like this:
Prize money was stolen from a rider in the ***** race. A rider who did not place within limits to receive a prize was seen with a prize envelope. My suggestions are for race promoters to lock up the money in a safe place until they are ready to hand it out, then to make sure the money does not leave their hands. Also, instead of giving cash, write a check to that rider so it is trackable.
My son did say I should say something, but I do not want to over step my boundaries on parenthood. On the message board I would post on, it is a requirement to put your first initial and last name when posting. I could make up a name, but then the credibility would be lost.
What does everyone think I should do?
