Shanazel, grumbling about the weather is one of our national characteristics in England. It is mostly unpredictable tending to wet and miserable though, rather than dramatic. I don't think it would register on your radar as real weather. A few inches of snow and the papers are full of stories about the arctic conditions, and the trains seize up. .
What is wet and miserable to you would likely be something just short of miraculous to me. Here if we get more than an inch of rain in a couple of months, people get ready to build arks. I think our average moisture a year (including snow) is about 13 inches, and that is more than some places I've lived. Two of my childhood friends from Arkansas went to live in England many years ago- one married a man from Manchester, the other married an American airman stationed there. Both of them said upon arriving in their new home, they put on every piece of clothing that was not in the laundry, wore those clothes inside and outside and nearly froze to death anyway. Anita still lives there and has become a real Englishwoman who now finds the climate "bracing."
I moved to England from Canada. Everyone thinks it's hilarious when I say I'm cold! I always say 'I may be from Canada, but we do have indoor heating!'
When they complain about the rain, I say 'It could be worse, it could be snow' Then they say 'Oh, I'd love that.' Then I say 'Not when you have to shovel it.' To which they say 'You're right!'
It doesn't help these days that I have a slight fever.... so I don't know whether to turn the heat up because it really is cold, or if it is just me. *sigh* actually that should read *shiver*
I don't mind shoveling snow so much as I mind scraping ice off my windshield. Seems like the accumulation is worst when I am in a hurry and just want to jump in the car and drive.

I know what you mean! A few weeks ago I got caught off guard - it snowed and I did not have anything and had to use my bare hands to get the snow off the car - then finally I found a plastic bag. THAT was painful. I was in a big hurry that day and running late. Fortunately so was the other person :=)
Fever is much better today thank you - I think I am on the mend - after a week of feeling weak and draggy. Today it is nice and sunny and a balmy 7 degrees (that's Celcius which is about 45 degrees Fahrenheit).
It was chilly but sunny and relatively still today. I ended up spending the whole day inside except for a run to the stable to worm the horse. My goodness, the giddy excitement of my life never ends! I know you all must be green with envy as you go about your dreary lives.
Gloomy but mild today. I went for a walk outside and it felt good. I can't believe we have not had snow accumulation yet in Minnesota. They are making artificial snow on the ski hills however.
Hehe, I am snowed in. I was spending a weekend on an island as was supposed to go home yesterday, but there was such a heavy snowstorm that I am still stuck here. By the look of it, the snow is up to the waist outside, not sure if I'll make it home today either... :shok:
Um, sorry, Moon. But it could've been worse: Maariku could've sent you warming thoughts from the land of waist deep snow. It is fifty degrees F here with a good stiff wind blowing. Hope it stays nice for my son to come home Wednesday for Thankgiving (a national holiday, for those of you who are wondering what the heck I'm talking about).
Brrr...It is starting to get cold in northern Minnesota. My car temperature read 18 Degrees F about an hour ago. Not much snow here however, just a dusting...Barely enough to cover the ground. I bet we are in for a snowstorm soon.
We were out west of town target practicing and could see a front coming in from the northeast all afternoon. That's where our winter storms usually come from, but maybe this one won't be so bad. It was sort of snowing and sort of raining when we put the horse in the barn and by the time we drove less than a mile home, snow was sticking to the grass.
We have a serious storm moving in today. Right now it is windy as all get out and overcast, but no snow yet. I just hope they manage to get the heat turned on in our office building by tomorrow. Everyone was running around wearing jackets inside yesterday (don't know about today- I am home with a sinus thing). There are some drawbacks to working in a 100 year old building. I never know whether my office will be a sauna or a deep freeze, so I dress in layers.
Quite an entertaining weather day we had yesterday: started out clear and warm, then clouded up and we got hail, followed by thunder and lightning and rain (LIGHTNING? RAIN? :shok: In December??), then some patchy sun, then the kind of snow we call popcorn, then the temperature plummeted to 15 degrees and we got cold winds and hard nasty little pellets of snow that eventually turned into big puffy flakes around midnight. Snowed off and on all day today and had warmed up to 26 degrees when I got home from teaching this evening. Yee haw! Dance recital tomorrow for my classes- one thing about peforming with the rest of the rec center classes, we always have an audience however bad the weather.
