Hi everyone

I have a couple of pieces of music that I want to do some basic editing to. For instance, I have a downloaded MP3 of an older dance album that has a very long song on it. I would like to get an MP3 of just the last 3 minutes of that song. Our troupe dances to a piece with a long improv introduction, but I would like to have another version of that song for when we don't have as long of a time to dance, and when a friend converted one of my favorite songs on a cassette tape to MP3, he accidentally picked up the first few notes of the next song on the tape.

Back in the day, it was pretty easy to do stuff like this...just play the album to the point you wanted, then press record on the cassette deck to get just the part you wanted on tape. Is there an easy way to do things like that when dealing with CD's or other media converted to MP3's then back to a performance or practice CD?

Thanks!

I haven't messed much with either one of my programs, but I have one I bought, and one I downloaded for free on the internet. The one I bought from Best Buy is called MP3 Maker 14 Deluxe, and it's by Magix. According to the box, you can edit your music files. I paid about 40 or 50 dollars for it.

The other program is a well-known one called Audacity, and you can download it for free. Here's a link:

Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder

I'm sure there are other programs that some of the others here use, but these are the two that I have. Hope that helps a little. :)

The program wavepad is easy to use and is a free download and has a trial period that you can use the program to trim exactly where you want to. I have used this program and it is great. I like it so much I ended up purchasing it. I had a couple of MP3s that had been cut abruptly off so I was able to fade out the end as well.

:yay:

Squee!!! I just edited 30 seconds of repeat out of some music, and you totally can't hear the join!!!!

(Yeah, I know that in the general scheme of music editing this is trivial and it's a bit sad to get excited about, but I am feeling the achievement here. So YAY!)

Hey Aniseteph, congrats!!! I have been editing music for myself, dance mates and the troupe for ages and STILL get excited when I've achieved perfection lol. I'd say go ahead and enjoy your achievement! :D

if you have a mac, Rogue Amoeba Fission is AWESOME for simple editing.

David,

What are the system requirements for Rouge Amoeba Fission. i have an old imac, and am thinking of getting one of the laptops, and would like to get music editing software also.
