On being a proud grandma

My five year old grand daughter had her first stage experience tonight. In a local schools' dance festival, dressed in black top and black shorts she twirled her silver poi ribbon as a bolt of lightning. No nerves...dear me...nothing like her gran and not a step outa place...again not like her gran:D
The whole show had something much of the BDSS show didn't on Sat ...kids from 5-16 dancing their hearts out and looking fulfilled and sparkling:clap:

Sounds delightful, congrats to your granddaughter, I bet she was so excited and happy. Generally kids these days have much more confidence than myself or peers when I was at school. My youngest son, now 15, has been confidently making stage appearances since the age of 5 for various speeches and productions, including 2 full on stage productions for the Victorian State finals. He has no fear of getting up on stage in front of hundreds of people for any reason even though he is at the self conscious teen stage. Wish I had been given such encouragement when at school.

:D   Well done!

There was a big push for dance in schools round here recently, as part of the sports program :)rolleyes:). What a great idea though - I wish I could have done dance as a "sport" activity. Much better than freezing my PE-knicker-clad a$$ off on the playing field, avoiding the ball AND the attention of irate PE teachers (it's a skilled art... but not very aerobic).

Oh so agreed now I am not anti-competition in sport but there is no element of competition in this festival and years ago the school I taught started to enter and the teacher in charge is the male football expert as well. What is lovely is the support they were giving each other..each school rapturously received by the kids in the audience (waiting their turn in the second half) Although I have to say Millie's school raised the roof as being little they were soooo cute and the teenage girls behind me were ooooing and aaahing at them. The year 1 were in pyjamas and reception bolts of lightning and when the year 1 had to show fear they were doing brlliant leg shimmies I could see right "up in the gods"...what shimmies and ribbons twirling and turning ..I should have been talent-spotting.:D
Oh yes Millie has got a hip scarf...a pink one from Kom Ombo!:D

I remember my daughters first xmas nativity play at 4. She was an angel and picked her nose all the way through Mother Mary's speech. Aaah, I was so proud...LOL

I think "dreamthief" might be be able to tell you about her daughter's foray into the world of child-modelling:D

My sister had a kid in nursery nativity who on playing the innkeeper punched "Joseph " in the face for stealing his girlfriend "Mary" and that's beside all the puddles on stage...
