Selling the forum?

Hi out there ☺️

Someone has approached me about buying the forum. I would remain as the admin and moderators too if they wished. The rules, topics etc. Would not be changed. At least that is what they said.

This is not someone involved in Near and Middle Eastern dances but more of an optimization group that can spend time turning the forum around in terms of traffic flow and I assume with that the ability to run ads and create an income stream.

As forum members, how would you feel about this? Opinions?

OD has been an important part of my life for a very long time now. I'm cognizant of how quiet the site has become over the last several years, and know you have given a good deal of thought to whether or not you want to continue with it. It is nice of you to ask our thoughts about the matter, but in the end, this is your forum, and I won't protest whatever decision you ultimately make.

I have been more than happy to be a moderator for you since you are an active participant in ME dance who provides a valuable resource for the community. I probably wouldn't continue as a volunteer moderator for the benefit of a faceless profit-oriented organization.

This is good input. It is a community, even if it has become an itty bitty community hahahaha! So I definitely want to know your wishes. I am not in any hurry. I do know that site building for SEO is not always synonymous as site building for the user. I asked to see some examples of what they have done. I will keep you posted.

You gotta do whatcha gotta do. I'd rather you sell it than close it, but Goddess only knows what would happen under corporate ownership. As we all know, Belly Dance is joined at the hip with a certain "social media" platform that will never see my presence - yet forums thrive for just about every other subject. I don't get it...

Coming out of lurk mode...

Forums like this one were once wonderful resources with dancers of all levels and perspectives having interesting and informative conversations (bullying and PC-posturing aside), but they ain't what they used to be. There are much cheaper ways for half a dozen people to converse online, and honestly, I would be in if someone resurrected the old MEDlist. I feel I should abstain on the vote for what Salome should do since I ghosted in late 2019 for a variety of personal reasons.

Since the conversation has moved away from selling the forum, I am contemplating moving some posts into a new thread to continue the discussion on belly dance in the world today. Wanted to give all participants fair warning before I make the move. Anyone have a suggestion for the topic heading for the new thread?
