The dancing image

Pirikia, thanks for the Fifi clip -- it's priceless!

I dunno that a classy, dignified outfit necessarily has to mean completely covered up and opaque. Even a bedlah doesn't have to look like something you'd see on a Brazilian beach.

There's a fashion blog that has a running complaint about women's hemlines that says repeatedly, "Cover your chachas!" The chachas, in this case, meaning one's pubic area.

The test being, can you sit down/walk,etc. without having to tug your skirt down to cover your underwear? (or lack thereof!)

To me, classy and dignified means -- for a start -- you don't have to worry about whether your chachas is covered. Or for that matter yer butt and yer nipples.

Is that too much "modesty" to ask for?

yes I had a body like that I just might costume myself like that!:)

Then again I'll be happy to look as good as this dancer!

If I had the body of the first dancer. I would just come on stage naked and pose... wouldnt have to do much else!

You are not really far off the second dancer.. and she is wearing one of my old costumes from Yasser!

Hi Pirika,
Yes, a galabiya is not something you would associate with Sharki.

Bedlah is also worn for Shaabi, it is a mythh that it is a galabiya style dance.

Most Shaabi dancers wear anything like you see in the clips.

This is what i identify with now personally....and my biggest fear is that oversexed look that the hair tosssing dancer has in that picture fromt the original post.

Lydia's image may very well be my initial view of the dance and i still love it (and her) - beauty and grace in art! Also because i am a girl and pretty things just make me happy.

Love it Mya! Heee heee also pretyy things quote!

When a dancer looks....ehem...naked, either through enormous slits or ill fitting bra... then it is trashy, not classy...

Just like every day life clothes...

Oh, I guess I watch too much Tito's video, and until recently, he dances any style with galabeya, so I thought it fit all other than shaki.

Maybe street cloth fit to shabbi???

Honestly, I don't know what to say about this one nor in which thread it belongs ...

What's truly disturbing is the audience howling in the background .. I'll be screaming get off the stage.

well.... As a teen the image that formed of the ideal bellydancer was something like this; mature, confident, and graceful. To me many of the popular dancers now are not... 'soft' enough to qualify.

it goes in the 'Good for a haflah but not for the general public?' thread (under performance).

This thread discusses 'confusing' performances to non ME music. :D
