Tito's new costume

mmm.... I doubt he copied directly, but he may well have been inspired by all of the good male dancers being creative with their costuming? who can say..

To be quite honest, these days I have learned to look for great dancing, so I am generally less interested in what people are wearing.

I care even less about male costumes as I am never likely to wear one.

I am a fan of local Egyptian nightclubs where anything goes.. so I tend not to be troubled as much as some people about these things.

I am not crazy about the giant hip cut-outs on the costume in the album. Yuck, in fact, but to each his own.

I love looking at costumes- your costumes, my costumes, their costumes, any costumes. A costume will sometimes seriously distract me. When I'm making mental wagers on how long before something pops out of position or blows a seam, it's hard to pay attention to the dance. ;)

Oh yes, costumes malfunctions are another matter entirely.. I laugh at some bad ones, but a costume never 'makes' the dance for me and it has to be really bad to break it.

Zorba, your tribal costuming sounds really interesting. Would like to see pictures.

Here's the back shot:

And the front view of a slightly earlier incarnation:

Tarik would squawk that this is too bra like - and I agree. I'm "working on it", this will change...

But just for Tarik - a shot from a recent cabaret performance, the "Sacrificial Virgin" look:

Not at all a Belly Dance costume; but since I'm sharing, a recent formal shot:

One of my teachers describes the white costume with gold trim as the "Sacrificial Virgin" look.

Zorba

"The Veiled Male"
Belly Dance. She's a very good instructor. I think she's referring to (mostly older) movies where the "sacrificial virgin" that is chained up to the rock wearing a gold trimmed white outfit waiting for the monster to eat her...

I am still trying to imagine you chained to a rock with the wanton but reluctant expression of a sacraficial virgin.. but my imagination wont let me stretch that far ;)... nevermind, back to costumes..

The one I'm thinking of never actually malfunctioned, but the threat alone was terrifying. :shok:

I have a white and gold costume that is referred to as the Greek Goddess look. I never knew of the sacrificial virgin with these colors. But that's why I read this forum so much - I learn something new everyday.

I think overall that it boils down to one thing - if you are watching the costume more than the dance then something isn't gelling right. A costume should be an "accessory" to the dance. If it's one thing that rubs me the wrong way is when I see a dancer, male or female, with slits so high that I'm wondering if he/she will flash it and reveal whether or not there are any undies. . .:shok:

BTW Zorba, I just LOVE that tattoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Add to that pants so tight that you're accosted by the dreaded camel toe, the smuggling sausage look, just say no to buttcrack and the ever present panty lines!:naghty:
