Hi Again,
I want to thank you all so much for your input. :) I currently have a few more monthes before I am ready to make a date, but I am going to school over the summer, so I can take fall off so I can have surgery. I cant tell you what it feels like to know, that most people can lose weight with out surgury, and it makes you feel like a failure...but as my nutritionist says "Honey, its in your genes". I am from an Irish Polish family and we are big people. Either way I am just going to have to work through the muscle damage and see what happens. I would trade my bellyrolls for a "normal" size in a heartbeat. Once again I want to thank everyone! Its really nice to have a online community of caring people.

ps- I am training for new (post surgury) eating habits, and I wont lie, you cant eat for 30 minutes before or after a meal and boy thats hard...try that some day;)

Good luck with your surgery. Y'know, it might be a good idea to keep a diary of before and after surgery. Then post the article so that other dancers can see what you went through should they be considering the same thing. It's easier knowing you're not alone.

Mandi,
So how did the surgery work for you? I am thinking about weight loss surgery, and would love to hear the rest of the story.

** just saw that the original post was from 2007.... oops lol , but still some interesting info below in case others are interested. Hope your surgery worked out perfectly for you and that you're happy and healthy:)

Hey Mandii,
Sorry to hear about your struggles but happy to hear that you're doing your research and looking into options. Personally I don't think going for the surgery is the right choice. I spent five years in UNiversity studying Nutrition and Nutraceutical Sciences, and if there is one thing I learned it's that doctors, nutritionists, dieticians only know a fraction of what there is to know. lol Essentially I learned that I don't know much at all:rolleyes: The problem is that to properly diagnose and treat a lot of weight issues it can be tricky since Doctors don't recieve much nutrition training and that dieticians/nutritionists don't recieve a ton of biomed training. Have you sought out a specialist who is an Doctor as well as a specialist in nutrition? Might be worth looking into before trying the surgery.

There are just so many complications that have been linked to the surgery that it makes me very nervous, but I can certainly empathize with your frusteration as for some people they really are biologically wired to be overweight and a lot of the general public doesn't respect or understand this and they can be very cruel. Makes me so sad to see it:( I was overweight as a child/in grade school so I know the feeling of being judged/made fun of etc.

I have heard excellent things about this book/theory and my best friend actually bought the book and loves it (she is lending it to me when she is done).
The Hormone Diet

As Maria Aya said, hormones are often playing HUGE roles in our weight and it isn't untel recent years that they have really been able to understand it thanks to advances in biomedical biochemistry. It is really a complex balance in our bodies and everyones is unique.

Whatever you decide GOODLUCK and I wish you all the best and hope that everything works out for you, Keep us posted:)
