I've been adding a wing to my website devoted to how to make bellydance costumes. It's a work in progress.

Shushanna Designs: How to Make Costumes

I'd love to hear your feedback, and any requests for additions you may have. New pages I have in the works include: Bra Cup Bases, How to Cover Bras, Ghawazee Coats, and Fringe.

thanks,

I would have given anything for explanations like that when I started making my own costume, your direction are very clear. I'm looking forward to your section on Ghawazee Coats. The only addition I can think of at the moment would be on making a simple Saidi dress and maybe an accompanying hip scarf.

I'm glad you like it, Ariadne! A Saidi dress and hip scarf are a great idea! :)

When sewing a trumpet skirt use an odd number of rectangles...here's the brilliance~ taper the edges to conform it to the hips. (Sooo obvious, but did I think of it? No.)

Trumpet triangles~ swing the string along the hem to get the curve. Brilliant!

I recently bought a trumpet skirt and had to do that at the top, it indeed gets a much better shape that way :)
What do you mean by "Trumpet triangles~ swing the string along the hem to get the curve"?

The triangular gores that can be added to trumpet skirts are actually pie pieces - slices of a circle. When you are trying to trace your gore I suggest you use a string or measuring tape, hold one end down in place at the top point of the gore, and use the other end to trace the arc. This also works for making circle skirt panels.

Let's see . . . I learned:

* The REAL way to tie a knot. (DUH! My Mom probably taught me years ago, and I blocked it because I was a teenager.)
* How to do a thread casing (which I saw on on of Ozma's FB posts, but only learned HOW to do here)
* How to sew on a shisha mirror (cool!)
* About all those good resources for beads -- thank you!
* That I need to keep an eye on your site for more good articles! Thanks!!!

warm regards, and welcome!

Should be dressing for a show, but the moment I saw the bra section was up it became a must read! Love the bling on your gold filigree bedlah

:lol: Kermit the Frog Boobs :lol:

Must re-read when I return, but thank-you!

on the beading section of your page: Shushanna Designs: Beading

There was a diamond trim you used. where do you get that? I have been searching for weeks now and still can't find it  maybe I'm using the wrong name?

But fabulous directions, it's one of my go to guides for sewing. It's not long winded, but gets right to the point, (I get rather antsy) so I can get on with the actual fun part!

Can't wait till you post more stuff!
