:shok::shok::shok: NO HAREM PANTS??? What is WITH the girls in the vids in this thread???? *dies again*

Okay, I'm blowing off some steam on Facebook. brb... >:/

EDIT: Hokay, I'm back, I'm perfectly fine, now! :D

Not only that but the teacher really didn't help them out with their costumes: two students have their belt or skirt sitting in their waist instead of hips and one is wearing a nipple-tactic bra :(

I can't find it in me to snark on that vid. It's obvious that they're beginners & I can really see their enthusiasm and that they did put a lot of work into it. Any fault in their performance rests on the head of their teacher in my opinion.

Yeah, I had the same thought about the student troupe's teacher. My teacher is only a year older than my daughter, but she would be worse than TEN mothers if I (or any of her other students) ever showed up for DRESS rehearsal like that! @_________@;;

Yeah, like I told Amulya, I thought the same thing, that that is the teacher's fault, but still, I can't put all the blame on her. Common sense should tell a person it isn't a good idea to let her (or his) underwear sh---waaaait a minute, WHAT am I saying???? :wall: :wall: :wall: *remembers the woman at Wal-Mart who rode down Action Alley in an electric chair wearing nothing on top but a dirty yellow bra* -_-

We're not talking about the level, or the way they dance, if you haven't seen nothing but the way they dance is your point of view (I can't make it sound less rude, that's not the way I want it to be read XD) , the first thing I saw was the underwear of -at least- two of them. It looks weird, I never told anything about their dancing, that's why I posted it without any description...

They are dancing. With their underwear visible. And that looks weird. Just. Weird. .-.

And it's fine to have an issue with that. However, it is still the responsibility of their teacher to address that issue with them before they go on stage. It's part of the costuming talk that happens when they are choosing a costume to wear and getting advice from the teacher on where to get it.

I'm honestly not seeing fail on the part of the students here.

Our teacher always has a dress rehearsal two weeks before performance to look over our costumes for approval (the two weeks gives us time for adjustments/corrections). However, I do wonder if society's perception of what is considered inappropriate might be changing. I see horrid things where I work that you didn't see 20 years ago. It was inappropriate to even have a bra strap show, let alone have guys "sagging," or people of both sexes displaying "plumber's crack." Do people in general not know any better any more, or do they simply not care?

But then there is that student who turns up in a costume no one has ever seen before... I had one. It was fairly appalling but not so totally awful that I tossed her out at the last minute. Bless her heart, she really did not know that it was inappropriate and honestly it was better than some of the trash the hiphop kids were wearing.

After that I got a little more emphatic about my students' costumes and the rec center director got a little more emphatic about the kids' costumes as well. The dancer instructor who couldn't tell cute from sleezy is no longer sliming with us.

It would totally be the teacher's fault if they were dancing for the first time in that video, and I agree with that.

But it was not the first time they dance with that costumes, they have had enough shows before that one, it was impossible they didn't realize their underwear was so... visibile. They just didn't care, and kept dancing with them.

AAAnd this n.n

Makes you wonder if belly dance needs safety regulations:

There's a more well-known video out there (thanks to Rob Pattinson on the Ellyn Show), but even the edited ones show too much! :shok:

How many times have any of the following happened to you? xD Props that either try to eat or kill you, costume accessories that won't behave, or oopsies onstage? All I can say is that this troupe must have a very good sense of humor to post this vid!

I have enough footage of my own bellydance oopsies in class to make my own montage... >.>

Another reason why you don't do floor work without harem pants:

It's definitely not the students' fault here. I feel sorry for them that their teacher failed them. Imagine a few years later and they know more about the dance and they look back at this video.... They would be horrified :(

This is odd. Then again, anything combining bd and gothic/metal seems weird to me.

The lady at the front with the dreads is HRH Lucretia, who excels in ...BD and gothic fusion :)

Odd is a pretty good summation, but she is awesome, and a great teacher.

 At 1:49 I thought "uuuh Suheir Zaki would turn in her grave", and then I thought " but then it would probably look like that anyway"
