Met the two rudest audience members last night...

I had a gig along with a dance friend and my teacher last night for some sort of corporate party...and our "dressing room" was right next to the area that they were having the party. It wasn't actually a dressing room but it was a large ballroom that they walled off.

We were done with our performance, changed out of our clothes, and were eating dinner that the hotel provided when two of the guests actually WALKED IN (probably drunk) and kept on asking us to go back outside to dance with them. I was stunned. What if we were changing? So I said in my coldest, iciest voice ever that no, thank you, we were done.

And they kept on nagging. And nagging. I was ready to snap when they finally left. I'm just APPALLED. Who in their right mind follows the performers to their DRESSING ROOM?

This was last night but I'm still angry...

The place where you were working should've had a security management to throw those jerks out. If you really wanted to get rough, you could've called the police. That was just plain sexual harassment. Too bad you couldn't have whacked some of them with a taktib!!

Well, to be fair, I guess management didn't think security was required for a normal corporate party...and I had my sword with me! It wasn't a small sword either but I guess people do stupid things when they're drunk...maybe I should purchase a Cas Hanwei...

Calling the police, or threatening too, is a great idea! I'll keep my phone nearby next time...but I've doing regular pro gigs for about two years now and never, ever had anyone walk into my dressing room...

I'm sure you don't like to blow any whistles if you don't have to but if this should ever happen again, short of threatening them with your sword , maybe you should report this to the management. Hopefully, they won't be the type that says "what else can you expect?"

No one in their right mind does this. However people who are drunk (or crazed fans), tend to do that because they aren't in their right mind.

Sorry you had to deal with that. Next time let them know that your sword is perfectly capable of castration. ;)

Drunk corporate types. It probably happens all the time. If they were that drunk they probably thought it was cheeky pleading and a compliment rather than tedious repetitive nagging and harassment.

If they didn't get the message I'd have told them I'm going to fetch security if you don't do as you've been asked, and then done it.

There is no accounting for or reasoning with a drunk. You handled it well. Blood is so hard to get out of the carpet.

Belly Dance Sword

There you go! XD

At my very first Ren Faire, one of the dancer's husbands walked in on me in the dressing tent when I was putting on a bra! Fortunately, I had my back turned, and quickly clasped the cups over my girls. He laughed and said, "Don't worry, I'm used to it." I didn't care, I WASN'T USED TO IT! I've made a promise to myself that if something like that ever happens again, I'm gonna ninja zill anyone walking in on me!

I think we have to realise the world is full of drunk stupid men and men who will take their chances. We shouldn't have to perform at gigs without some security.
I expect to have to share dressing rooms with other performers..be they male or female..that's show-biz! BUT not the audience!!!!!

Have you had the woman who sits front and center and snarls at you during your entire performance? Or the drunk guy who comes out on the dance floor and decides it's time to ballroom dance with you? If not, you have a lot to look forward to;)

I also had a dude run out on the dance floor during my veil dance and jerk the veil out of hands, throw it over his head and take off out of the room. I had to chase him down to get my veil back:mad:

I had my first performance last night which was really fun except for a creepy guy that didn't leave us alone after the show.
At first he seemed friendly and interested so we let him take a photo of our group and we asked him to take a photo with one our cameras so we had one.

That was all okay, then he asked for one of just me and I wasn't sure but the girls said oh go on, so I did.

He then became a bit full on gushing about our performance and heaping on the flattery. We thanked him politely and moved on.

Then at the end we were handing out leaflets and he approached me again, began the flattering comments again and held out his hand as if to shake hands. I quickly thrust a leaflet into his hand and went to move away but he tried to put his arm around me and asked for a kiss!:shok::mad:
I blocked him with my free hand and moved quickly to the other girls.
I was quite upset, it made me feel dirty and cheap.
He was middle eastern, and I'm wondering if it was maybe a cultural thing? Do men feel it is okay to treat dancers like that over there?

You are a nice person, Bast, and behaved beautifully with no reason to feel cheap or dirty. I'd probably have knocked him on his can at some point- you can't be subtle with idiots like this no matter where they are from.

Oh you were much nicer than I would have been at the end there. I probably would have kneed him. You did just fine and no need to feel cheap or dirty. It was all him.

Many times. It's a given, I think, at many events. I find a friendly face and focus on that one. But once someone starts touching me, now that's a different subject.

Way to go, Nath. Isn't it amazing how aggressive a person gets once she's far enough over the hill to have had enough manhandling to last her the rest of her life? Put those suckers DOWN.

What's best is they don't see it coming from gray haired little old ladies, belly dancers or not. ;)
